Outreach to Haiti

Outreach to Haiti Outreach to Haiti saves and changes lives in Haiti by supporting outcome-based medical, nutritional and educational programs and services. Its U.S.

Outreach to Haiti (OTH) helps Haitians help Haitians save and change the lives of the most vulnerable infants, children and families in Haiti. Initially conceived by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, CT, OTH was build on a covenantal relationship with the people of Haiti. For close to 30 years, faith communities in U.S. and Haiti have come together in twinning relationships throughout the Arc

hdiocese of Port-au-Prince, which have fostered the economic growth and development of the Haitian communities and personal and faith lives of the U.S. and Haitian communities. Working closely together the twinned communities - in response to the stated needs of the Haitian communities - have built schools, medical clinics and potable water installations; sponsored the education of children, teens and young adults; provided education on clean water, hygiene and sanitation; supported livelihood and agriculture initiatives. In the city of Port-au-Prince, OTH provides education (school scholarships); medical care through an onsite clinic, mobile clinics, and medical missions; community outreach; a nutriton program; meals for the extremely impoverished; orphanage support; and supervision in a parish twinning program. IN Haiti OTH has two bases of operation -- the mission house in Petion-Ville which primarily supports the twinning program and education sponsorships of Petion-Ville students and the campus in the Christ Roi neighborhood of Port-au-Prince which primarily supports the primary care medical clinic, comprehensive nutrition program, education sponsorships of Christ Roi students, other programs in collaboration with partner agencies and general administration. base is in Norwich, CT, at the Diocese of Norwich. Education is more than just learning; in Haiti today, it is a sanctuary. Keeping children like 8-year-old Christie Neyra Jeune in the classroom is our best way to ensure they stay safe, supported, and away from the influence of local gangs.đź’™

Christie is a bright second-grader who loves math, the color pink, and riding her bike.🚴‍♀️ While her parents work hard to make ends meet in a difficult economy, they need a partner to help keep Christie on her path to success. You can be that partner.

For just $44 a month ($525 per year), you can sponsor Christie’s education and provide her with the stability she deserves. Join us in protecting the future of Haiti’s children, one student at a time.

Jean Marie Brutus
Born: December 6, 1965 - Died: March 1, 2026

Jean Marie was hired to work at Norwich Mission House in 1999. He worked hard and with great enthusiasm at whatever task he was asked to undertake. Over his twenty-six-year career with Outreach to Haiti (OTH) he became a face of the organization to all who passed through its doors in Haiti. He loved to share his gift of humor with visitors but also understood the mission of OTH and he was serious in spreading understanding of what that mission meant to him and to the people of Haiti. He was proud to be a part of that mission.

I met Jean Marie in 1999 and over the years became good friends with him and his family. He taught me that friendship went beyond language as I grappled with Creole as much as he struggled with English. Each morning when visitors from the U.S. were staying at OTH he would hold Creole lessons during breakfast. He would begin “Bonjou, kijan ou te dòmi?” (Good morning, how did you sleep?) He would then provide the response, “Mwen dòmi tankou yon wòch! (I slept like a rock!). He would practice that one exchange over and over each morning for the duration of their stay. I know many people I have taken to Haiti that never learned a lot of Creole, but to this day they know this exchange. Jean Marie was a true ambassador for OTH.

On March 1, 2026 we lost a good and caring person. He loved Haiti, his family, his neighbors, and the mission of Outreach to Haiti. May he rest in peace (like a rock!).

Se pou Bondye beni Jean Marie, fanmi li, ak misyon Outreach an Ayiti!

(May God bless Jean Marie, his family, and the mission of Outreach to Haiti!)
