Did you know 1 in 3 teens has experienced some form of intimate partner violence? Teen dating violence has lasting physical, emotional, and mental health consequences, and yet, it remains a conversation we often avoid. Unhealthy relationship patterns formed in adolescence can follow youth into adulthood if left unaddressed.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is deeply committed to protecting our youth by educating and empowering them through interactive programming that fosters healthy, respectful, and violence-free relationships. We believe every young person deserves to feel safe, valued, and heard. The Zeta Youth Affiliates of Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter Kicked off Black History Month Kindred Thoughts Book Store for the African American Read-In. Our featured author was Jacqueline Woodson. Her books include Brown Girl Dreaming, The Day You Begin, Each Kindness, The Year We Learned to Fly, The Other Side and many more. Her books age from beginner to advanced. Perfect selection for Pearlettes(in training), Amicettes and Archonette’s who participated.

Our Advisors did a wonderful job. We learned how Black History Month Started as 1 Week in February 100years ago. We learned what a Grio is and how we can learn from our own family member, and become our family’s storyteller. We learned more about our featured auther, who said she began writing about her family stories and then started writing about her lived experiences. Her books are ageless and anyone can relate to her stories. We dove in to read her stories and had a discussion afterwards. We had a great time. Of course crafting was deck and we even had a visit from the New Haven Sigmas of Phe Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Who dropped by to say hello.

Kicking off our Black History Month celebration with Kindred Thoughts Book Store. The Zeta Youth Affiliates of AARhoZ participated in the African American Read-In. We were definitely engaged and inspired to explore the many writings of author Jacqueline Woodson. Arts and Crafts were a perfect ending for our creative minds.
