Mark Bloomfield, a multiple myeloma patient, is one of 75 charity athletes running the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon with MMRF Team for Cures.

When asked why he is taking on this race Mark shared, "To keep moving forward, not stop. If I stop, I have failed. Running with MMRF allows me to fundraise, so hopefully one day there will be a cure for multiple myeloma. My mother had MS, and there was no cure, it eventually overtook her. By being able to raise money, it gives me motivation and the desire to keep on going forward.

Ahead of the MMRF Walk/Run in the Twin Cities is this weekend, we'd like to introduce you to Mary C., our Spirit of Hope Awardee. A microbiologist and avid runner, Mary was diagnosed with high-risk multiple myeloma in 2018. Through treatment and recovery, she found strength in staying active and supporting the MMRF. Her mantra is simple: keep moving. "Every time I am feeling low or not my best, I just keep telling myself to keep moving,” Mary says. “I tell myself that if I can just keep moving, nothing can catch up with me."

Ahead of the MMRF Walk/Run in Chicago this weekend, we'd like to introduce you to Pam W., the Torrance Campbell Spirit of Hope awardee.

Since being diagnosed with high-risk multiple myeloma in 2021, Pam has faced every challenge — CAR T-Cell Therapy, two stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, and radiation — with incredible grace and grit. Her mission is to build community, raise awareness, and help fund the future of myeloma research.

Pam and her team, Worth the Trek, have raised an astonishing $100,000 and counting 🎉

From Chester, CT to the northern tip of Canada, Steve Joseph set out on a remarkable 3,600+ mile sea voyage. 🌊

Steve took on this journey in honor of his late brother, raising funds for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation along the way. His dedication is a reminder of the incredible lengths people will go to for the ones they love.

“I never thought I’d be capable of running a marathon after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2023. With the support of the MMRF—and gratitude for what my body has shown it can do—I’m taking on the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon with Team for Cures. After the lowest of lows, I’m now chasing those unimaginable highs and proving life doesn’t stop at diagnosis.” – .ontherun

Andrew’s road hasn’t been easy—but it’s one he’s faced with grit, resilience, and courage. Diagnosed with myeloma in 2013, he enjoyed 7 years in remission before a rare relapse in 2023 kept him from riding for the first time in over a decade.

After months of chemo, radiation, and CAR-T, he’s rejoining the Road to Victories team—heading to Death Valley this November to ride. His journey is The Road We Share, and why we work to bring better treatments to all myeloma patients, no matter where they are on theirs.

Last month we were honored to be part of the WNBA Chicago Sky Health & Wellness Night, sponsored by our partner, UChicago Medicine. Being able to shine a spotlight and raise awareness about multiple myeloma in front of almost 10,000 fans was a night to remember.

We are so grateful to Magellan Corporation for its generous support of our work in honor of Team Captain Courtney Vandersloot “Sloot”, who lost her mom to myeloma a little over a year ago. And we were thrilled to recognize part of the amazing UChicago Medicine team focused on research and patient care, along with Pam Worth, myeloma patient and our Spirit of Hope awardee for our 2025 Chicago Walk/Run this September.
