Dedicated to gynecologic cancer awareness and treatment, DesiGYNs on Awareness was founded by Allison Passero to honor her mother, Sara Herz, PhD, who passed away in 2008 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at an advanced and incurable stage. Paying attention to your body and taking action when things don’t “feel normal” aren’t only the keys to early gynecologic cancer detection; they’re the
keys to successful prevention and treatment. Our goal is to raise awareness, answer questions about the disease and save lives. The inaugural 2013 DesiGYNs on Awareness event raised over $50,000, with proceeds supporting education, treatment and research at the Whittingham Cancer Center. Proceeds from this year’s event will help support genetic counseling for women at risk for developing GYN cancers, genomic testing for advanced GYN cancers to help find targeted treatments and complimentary integrative medicine services for all women treated at the Whittingham Cancer Center for GYN cancers.
