Fresh from the RG Potting Shed veggie patch at the Rowayton Community Center! 🥕🥒🌿 Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we harvested herbs, cucumbers and carrots, with plenty more still growing. Everything was donated to Person to Person and Open Doors, local nonprofits with a big impact. Even with Roton Avenue under construction and lots going on in town, Rowayton Gardeners continue to make the Sammis Street Triangle garden look beautiful! RG Kajsa Sheibley, with help from RG Lisa Lahaussois, pulled weeds and grasses from the front of the triangle for an upgrade captured in these three photos. What a lovely evening at the Potting Shed! 🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Rowayton Gardeners Summer Cocktail Party last night. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, a wonderful turnout and the opportunity to recognize our outgoing president while welcoming our new co-presidents, Sarah and Robyn. Members enjoyed cocktails, an incredible assortment of homemade appetizers and great conversation surrounded by the beautifully tended gardens. From croquet on the lawn to harvesting the season's very first carrot, the event was perfect for celebrating friendship, gardening and community.

🇺🇸 INVITATION: American Spirit 250 Flower Show, July 11-12 🇺🇸

The Westport Garden Club cordially invites the community to The Westport Library on July 11th and 12th to enjoy our “American Spirit 250” Flower Show.

As part of our year-long celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, this National Garden Club (NGC) Standard Flower Show will showcase stunning horticultural specimens and creative floral designs. The show will be filled with entries in Design and Horticultural Divisions, with categories and classes carrying unique patriotic themes like "From Sea to Shining Sea" and "Samuel Adams."

It will also include Educational Exhibits from these local organizations:

🇺🇸 Sustainable Westport
🇺🇸 VFW Post 399
🇺🇸 Daughters of the American Revolution, Drum Hill Chapter
🇺🇸 The Federated Garden Clubs of CT's Bee Resilient project.

The event is open and FREE to the public

Hours: Saturday, July 11: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM; Sunday, July 12: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Bridget Bennett, President of the Rowayton Gardeners, attended the Brien McMahon Awards Ceremony to present two Rowayton Gardeners scholarships worth $2K each. The two recipients were Jaeliesse Rivera who will study Environmental Law and Pilar Delgado who will study is Environmental Studies and Animal Science. Congratulations to both students!

The Rowayton Gardeners hosted their annual meeting with a festive brunch on June 10. Two new Co-Presidents, Sarah Boles and Robyn Kammerer, were voted into office for their two year term beginning July 1. Bridget Bennett, who served two terms as President, was presented with gifts during a lovely presentation by Lissa Short and Kathleen Raby, Co-Vice Presidents as well as Amy Tyson, Nominating Committee Chair, to thank her for her four years of inspiring leadership. COMMUNITY GARDEN SUPPORT! RG Sally Walker (seen here) is tending to the plants at the corner of Cudlipp and Rowayton Avenue thanks to the help of a nearby neighbor who is letting the Rowayton Gardeners use her water line. Last year Sally went to the town officials to ask if the group could adopt this spot now known as the Isle of Cudlipp. Learn about all the spaces in town that the RGs tend year round in an interactive map found on our website, link here!

The Rowayton Gardeners' Vegetable Patch is thriving! What began in April with vegetable and flower seeds in our greenhouse has grown into a flourishing garden of eight raised beds. With more than 24 varieties of vegetables and flowers, our mission this season is simple: grow fresh, organic, healthy food and donate as much as possible to local organizations supporting those in need.

We're excited to share that our first harvest is already underway! Last week, fresh lettuce and kale were delivered to Open Door Shelter and Person-to-Person. Coming up next: sugar snap peas, cucumbers, and plenty more from the garden. 🥬🥒💚
