The Rowayton Gardeners' Vegetable Patch is thriving! What began in April with vegetable and flower seeds in our greenhouse has grown into a flourishing garden of eight raised beds. With more than 24 varieties of vegetables and flowers, our mission this season is simple: grow fresh, organic, healthy food and donate as much as possible to local organizations supporting those in need.

We're excited to share that our first harvest is already underway! Last week, fresh lettuce and kale were delivered to Open Door Shelter and Person-to-Person. Coming up next: sugar snap peas, cucumbers, and plenty more from the garden. 🥬🥒💚

The Rowayton Gardeners Kids Nature Explorers program was in full swing during the month of May. The kids learned how flowers help plants reproduce and discovered the amazing structures hidden inside blooms. They also learned about the vital role pollinators play. From flowers and vegetables to fruit and shade trees, most flowering plants depend on pollinators to thrive. These insects also provide essential food for birds and other wildlife.

The Rowayton Gardeners were treated to a very special garden tour in Darien's Tokeneke neighboorhood with Andy Cavanna. Andy shared his vision, planning and ex*****on in transforming his property into a wonderland of various gardens and meadows, along with honey bees and chickens. And he isn’t finished! We were all truly awed and inspired – thanks so much to Andy and his family for sharing their afternoon with us.

HOW LUCKY ARE WE! The rain held off for all the shoppers at our annual Spring Market sale Saturday, May 9 – thanks to all who came and shopped at our annual fundraiser. The event benefits our club’s mission of conservation, sharing gardening knowledge and civic beautification through the maintenance of eight community gardens. SPRING MARKET TOMORROW – RAIN OR SHINE! The RGs were up bright and early moving plants from Tammy Langalis’ patio (where she lovingly cared for them for the last month) to the Community Center. Additional volunteers unloaded the trucks and began organizing the plants for the sale as well as the popular Garden Goods and Vintage Treasures in the Potting Shed. Many thanks to Bob Burchard, 6TD property manager and his team Jose and Louis for shuttling the plants, plus the loading and unloading. We couldn’t have done it without their help! See everyone tomorrow Saturday, May 9 from 10 am to 1 pm :)

TENT RAISING TODAY AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER! It's always a thrill to see the tent go up in anticipation of another Spring Market this Saturday, May 9. Thanks so much to the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department for the use of the tent and their members who helped put it in place. Next step is setting up the tables underneath, thanks also to the RGs who were there for all that too! Join us THIS Saturday, May 9 from 10 am to 1 pm, at the Potting Shed – there will plants galore and premade bouquets plus homemade goodies, all ready to go and perfect for Mother's Day
