This year's event also honors the legacy of our long-time producer, Peg O'Sullivan, on what would have been her 900th birthday! Why: This concert is a celebration of storytelling as both a contemporary adult form of entertainment and as a living, breathing connection to our past. But it is also the primary fundraising event for the Connecticut Storytelling Center's educational outreach programs. Here is a quote from their website: http://www.connstorycenter.org/tellabration.htm
"The storytellers donate their performances. All funds raised help to support The Center's mission to strengthen the bonds of our state's culturally and economically diverse communities by building a network of storytellers and listeners. Providing performances, workshops, and educational programming in an ever-widening circle of venues, we seek to preserve and perpetuate the ancient art of storytelling. “
In case you don't know about Tellabration, let me give you a little background. Tellabration was the brainchild of Connecticut storyteller J. Pinkerton, who conceived the idea as a way to re-introduce grown-ups to the pleasures of storytelling as entertainment. In 1988, the Connecticut Storytelling Center sponsored six Tellabrations in the state. Tellabration's success in Connecticut led some other states to follow suit the next year, and in 1990, Tellabration expanded nationwide. We are THE original one, started by J.
