The ELM Project

Enhancing the lives of youth living with chronic illness by providing a summer camp experience and the tools for a healthy, independent future.

Our programs include:

Camp AmeriKids: one week residential summer camp experience for children ages 8-16 affected by HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease, volunteer counselors 18+, and volunteer program area instructors (dance, sports, arts and crafts, spoken word, drama, and more). Leader-In-Training Program: year-round teen leadership group for teens ages 16-18 who were previously campers with Camp

AmeriKids. Mentor Program: year-round one to one mentoring program for young people ages 16-20 who were previously campers with Camp AmeriKids. All youth programs are open to Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York families and are completely free of charge. Volunteers have come from all over the world including the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Sun has officially set on Camp AmeriKids 2026! 🌅 What a whirlwind. We got our fill of big laughs, belly flops, cotton candy, and so many memories in between.

Dr. H may have plenty of Band Aids, but his true magic is his big heart and warm smile. Thank you for the many summers you've spent keeping our camp family safe, healthy, and cared for, and for all the hard work you do behind the scenes. We can't wait to see you this summer!

Zippy, Zippy, hooray! 🎉 Here's to another session with our new Program Director. After so many unforgettable summers, your leadership, dedication, and heart have shaped generations of campers and staff. We're so lucky to have you!
