Love Grows Love Animal Assisted Learning Our Core Values: Everyone has choices, deserves respect, and is loved by God. In the future, we plan to add chickens and goats.

Our Mission: Love Grows Love is a partnership with God, animals, and creation to help people discover their strengths, grow in confidence, and become all God created them to be. Located in Norwalk Ohio Love Grows Love is a non-profit organization that promotes partnering with God and creation for self-discovery in developing teens as leaders through strength-based learning. In a farm-style environment we offer purposeful, guided animal assisted learning and farm-activity experiences. Participants can increase self-awareness and life application in these concepts: respect, responsibility, relationship skills, empathy, boundaries, choices/outcomes while having fun learning about themselves, their strengths and others. Currently Love Grows Love has a variety of equine partners including full-sized horses, miniatures, and a darling mule as well as dogs and cats. There will be other on-the-farm experiences like learning to compost and gardening for experiential learning. We work to help Huron county be a thriving, positive place to live by building connections to faith, family, and community in a challenging and encouraging environment. Though new to the Norwalk area, Love Grows Love is partnering, connecting, and working with other organizations that have many years of experience working with animal assisted learning. Busy weeks are becoming the norm here at the farm, and love is growing everywhere we look! 💜🐴

Thanks to our beautiful horses and dedicated volunteers, this week alone we’ve shared the farm with our HERd To Heart participants, Project LIFE, Herd Qualities, Leadership Toolbox, Stable Connections, 4 Corners of Shared Leadership and Hands-On Horses—with Heroes & Horses and a big field trip for Sandusky City Schools still to come at the end of the week!

So many different people, each bringing their own story, finding opportunities to connect, discover, and grow. That’s one of the most beautiful things about Love Grows Love—there truly is a place for everyone. 💚

Little Horse, Big Shoulders. 🐴💜

At a recent HERd To Heart Women’s Day, a woman noticed something beautiful about one of our little ponies.

When someone didn’t want it too close—or another horse wanted space—it simply moved along. It didn’t appear to take offense or insist on affection. It kept gently checking in, finding someone who welcomed its presence.

Her words stayed with us: “Little horse, big shoulders.”

How often do we struggle with what that little pony made look so simple? Someone needs space, and we feel rejected. Our affection isn’t welcomed in that moment, and we take it personally.

But Scripture reminds us that love is patient and kind, and that it does not insist on its own way (1 Corinthians 13:4–5). James 1:19 calls us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

Sometimes love means drawing close. Sometimes it means listening when someone says, “I need a little room.” Their need for space does not diminish our worth—and respecting it can be a beautiful expression of love.

Big shoulders don’t mean carrying everyone’s burdens or accepting hurtful treatment. They can mean being secure enough in God’s love to give someone room without withdrawing our kindness.

That little pony offered us a quiet invitation: Keep a tender heart. Respect the space. Let love remain patient.

Lord, help us pause before taking offense. Teach us when to draw near and when to give room, trusting that we are loved in either moment. Amen.

Only week TWO, and this Herd Qualities group is already giving us so much to celebrate! 💛🐴

Our new group of middle schoolers from Western Reserve and our homeschool community has exceeded our expectations with the communication skills they’re already bringing to the farm. They’re listening, working together, and leaning into learning through experience as they partner with the horses.

One especially beautiful moment? While the students were gathered in a circle for an activity, the big horses came over from the field to join them. The group was showing such congruence—having their words, body language, and intentions match—and the herd seemed drawn to that calm, authentic presence.

These young people are discovering that communication goes far beyond what we say. How we listen, how we show up, and how we respond to others all help build trust and connection.

We are so proud of these growing leaders and the openness they bring to learning from the herd. If this is week two, we can’t wait to see what grows next! 🌱

Today’s pictures are full of hay bales, helping hands, and preparation for a season we can’t quite feel yet. 🌾

Right now, the pastures are still green. But we know colder days are coming. When the grass stops growing and winter storms roll in, the horses and ponies will depend on the hay we’re putting away today.

As we filled the barn, I thought about how God invites us to prepare our hearts, too. We spend time with Him, learn to trust His voice, and hold on to His Word before we know what storms life may bring.

Preparation doesn’t mean we won’t face hard seasons. It means that when they come, we can draw on the faith God has been growing in us all along.

We’re grateful for every person helping us care for this herd, in every season. 🤎

Our hearts are full of gratitude for the Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities Project LIFE interns who recently spent time giving back to their community here at Love Grows Love. 💛

Today was there first day of many to come!

They took on the big job of cleaning the large horses’ shelter—and they worked hard! It was beautiful to watch each person contribute their own strengths, encourage one another, and serve with such determination and joy.

Thank you, Project LIFE interns, for generously sharing your time and talents with our farm. Your hard work made a meaningful difference, and we are so grateful you chose to serve alongside us! 🐴

Today, I walked into the field with a broken heart.

I didn’t try to hide my grief or pretend to be strong. I simply came as I was—authentic, vulnerable, and hurting. And one by one, the horses gathered around me.

They didn’t ask me to explain. They didn’t try to fix anything. They simply stood with me, breathing quietly in the sunshine after the rain.

After a long moment of stillness, a couple of them gently invited me to play—as if reminding me that even while we carry sorrow, small moments of joy are still allowed.

Later, I scrubbed their little water trough and filled it with fresh water. They already have an automatic waterer in their shelter so you wouldn’t think they would even notice- but they are always curious about this simple act of care. Serving them after they had given so freely to me brought its own kind of comfort.

Sometimes healing doesn’t arrive through answers. Sometimes it comes through presence, quiet breaths, sunshine after rain, and the opportunity to give love when your own heart is hurting.

Today, the horses reminded me that we do not have to hide our brokenness to be welcomed. We can come exactly as we are—and still find connection, purpose, and glimpses of joy. 💛

Trust is built—not simply given.

During this month’s Heroes & Horses gathering, our veterans explored what trust can mean after military service: how it is built, how it can be damaged, and the important difference between vulnerability, healthy trust, and blind trust.

Then, the horses brought those conversations to life.

A lead rope may connect a person to a horse, but it cannot create trust. Pulling harder does not build a stronger relationship. Trust begins when we pay attention, communicate clearly, remain consistent, and respect the response we receive.

We are grateful for each veteran who joined us, shared space around our table, and stepped into the arena with courage and openness. It is an honor to offer Heroes & Horses each month as a place for connection, reflection, and growth. 🇺🇸🐴
