"There's people much worse off than I am."

Maybe. But two things can be true and The Salvation Army is here for people in a pinch, not just for those who've been down and out for a while.

Last year the Norwalk Corps served 2,446 meals and 2,924 people through the pantry, and helped 94 households stay housed or keep the lights on.

The Salvation Army of Norwalk does more than feed the hungry, they provide community and fellowship for anyone who could use it.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated in Sunday’s Maple City Half Marathon and 5k. It was an amazing event and we are so blessed that it stopped raining just in time for the race. Between the two races, there were 230 finishers. We are so grateful to Pat Spettel, race organizer and board member, for his vision for this event. We appreciate your dedication to make it a well-organized race and to help raise awareness for our non-profit and its mission to improve the quality of life in Huron County communities.

We also are extremely thankful to this amazing community for answering the call as we organized this event. Thank you to all our volunteers who braved the rain forecast and stepped up to help wherever we needed you. A special shout out to the City of Norwalk, Ohio and all the time and effort they provided to make this event safe.

TODAY is the day! The Maple City Half Marathon / 5K🍁 is happening this morning in downtown Norwalk. The Half Marathon begins at 7:45 a.m. and the 5k starts at 7:50. We hope it is a great and SAFE event for all the participants.

Please share this information on Race Road Closure and Delays. 🏃

The main thing is PLEASE allocate extra travel time this morning, slow down, and watch for runners. There are nearly 300 people participating between both events. The heaviest runner traffic should only last about 15 minutes in most areas.

Here is a map of the race course with an approximate rolling closure schedule. Runners will start and end at Norwalk High School and proceed counterclockwise on the route. The race is scheduled to be completed and all roads re-opened by 11:30a.m.

💗Pink (Pleasant Street) - expect heavy runner traffic from both the 5k and the half marathon to persist through most of the morning (7:45-11:00 a.m.). We are asking drivers to try to find an alternate route Sunday morning, however if they do need to use Pleasant Street to drive extremely carefully and give runners wide berth and the right of way.

💙Blue - Shady Lane / Norwood. Norwood will have heavy traffic from the 5k from 7:45 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. South bound lane of Norwood will experience intermittent traffic from the half marathon runners until 11:15 a.m.

💚Green - rolling one-lane closures from approximately 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. This section will be completely opened by 9 a.m.

🔶Orange - East bound lane on Main Street to be used by runners from approximately 8:15 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. West bound lane to be used by runners from approximately 8:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

⭐Yellow - Gallup Street to be closed to East Bound traffic Sunday morning from the bike path to Deerfield .

💜Purple - Oakwood neighborhood / south bound lane of Schauss, runners will pass through this portion between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

If you aren’t participating, we are encouraging people to cheer on the runners and show our visitors why Norwalk is such a great little city! 🍁🫶

Thanks to everyone who picked up their packets this afternoon for the Maple City Half Marathon and 5K. We had a great turnout. Reminder: Packet Pick Up on Race Day will be at Norwalk High School (350 Shady Lane) parking lot from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. We will be set up near the flag pole. Please be sure to arrive on time as the pre-race festivities will start promptly at 7:30. We are excited! See you in the morning! 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏿‍♀️
