We were just notified that US Army Veteran that served in Vietnam, Pythian “Pete” Daniels has gained his heavenly wings. He was NOT a member of our Chapter 56, but he WAS a member of DAV. I am posting his obituary if anyone is interested in paying their lasts respects to him. He was a great man that was thought of kindly!

Pythian “Pete” Daniels of Coeburn, VA., was born in St. Paul, VA to Charlie and Bertha Daniels. Mr. Daniels was called to eternal rest on April 29, 2026 at Norton Community Hospital at the age of 83. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, Reverend and committed member of his church and community. He served with the US Army in Vietnam from July 2,1964 until March 17,1976 and was honorably discharged. A man of deep faith, Reverend Daniels loved God, ministered to others. He was known for his kindness and devotion to family and community. He is survived by his daughter Renee; his stepson Oscar; eleven grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bertha Daniels, his two children; Patricia and Trinity; his three sisters, Calanthe, Oaklee and Rosemary and six brothers, David, Robert Henry, Charlie Jr., Damon John, Joseph and Ezekiel. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 9, 2026, 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, Va. Funeral Services will follow in the chapel with Pastor Kevin Campbell officiating. Burial and Military Honors will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, May 11, 2026, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery Johnson City, Tennessee. Please visit www.sturgillfuneral.com to sign guest register book online. Just a notice for everyone. The VFW will be doing their poppy sales on May 1 and 2nd. Expect them to be at all of their usual places. We should be at our normal site by 10:30 Friday morning and leave around 4:30 Ish. Everyone support is absolutely appreciated. Also if you would like to join your local VFW. Contact their commander or members to join.

Honor Guard,

This message provides important details regarding the upcoming military honors ceremony for our departed veteran, Billy Carter. We are called upon to render a dignified final farewell, and your participation is deeply valued.

The solemn service is scheduled for **Friday, February 13th**. All proceedings will take place at the **Temple Hill Mausoleum in Castlewood**, organized in conjunction with the Castlewood Funeral Home.

The main funeral service is set to commence promptly at **12:00 PM**. Following this, the mausoleum service, where our military honors will be formally conducted, is anticipated to begin around **12:45 PM**.

For our dedicated Honor Guard personnel, your presence is crucial. We request all Honor Guard members to arrive and be fully assembled at the mausoleum no later than **12:30 PM** to allow ample time for preparation and briefing before the services begin. Your professionalism ensures we provide the highest tribute.

For community members and fellow veterans who wish to join in a collective show of respect and support, the Coeburn VFW Post will be departing from their Post at **12:00 PM**, and all are cordially invited to join them en route to the service.

The Coeburn VFW Post will also be taking the lead responsibility for providing the ceremonial rifles and flags essential for the honors.

ATTENTION HONOR GUARD!!! TUESDAY, JAN. 20TH, 2026, WE HAVE BEEN REQUESTED FOR MILITARY HONORS FOR DAVID ALDEN PILKENTON, 84, US ARMY, SERVED DURING THE VIETNAM WAR CONFLICT, AT ESTES FUNERAL HOME, COEBURN @ 6:00 PM. BE AT THE FUNERAL HOME BY 5:30 PM!

David Alden Pilkenton, 84, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his residence in Coeburn, VA with his family by his side. He was born July 21, 1941, in Wise County, a son to the late William and Nelly Pilkenton. David served his county in the United States Army from 1961 through 1973 and served during the Vietnam War Conflict. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Linda Pilkenton; daughter, Kimberly Pilkenton; grandson, Brandon Collins. He is survived by four daughters, Angela Anderson, Pamela Page, Tammy Musick, and Tina Pilkenton (his baby girl), all from Coeburn, VA; sons, Mike and Cody Pilkenton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. At this time there will be no service. Celebration of Life will follow at a later date and announced on Estes Funeral Home website. Online condolences may be sent at www.estesfuneralhomes.com . Estes Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of David Pilkenton.
