The Father's House Statement
To our church family, our community, and everyone who encountered the recent post by Shawn Holderfield:
We want to speak clearly and sincerely regarding the words that were shared.
The views expressed in that post do not represent the values, beliefs, or pastoral heart of The Father's House.
The Father's House does not believe that marriage gives anyone permission to sexually violate, coerce, intimidate, or abuse their spouse. Sexual violence and abuse are serious matters, and we will never minimize, excuse, or tolerate them.
We believe that every human being is created in the image of God and possesses inherent dignity, value, and worth. We believe marriage is intended to reflect the sacrificial love of Christ—marked by faithfulness, tenderness, honor, mutual care, and selflessness.
We are deeply sorry that these words caused anyone to associate those views with The Father's House or to question whether our church would stand firmly against sexual violence and abuse.
We understand why people would be hurt, angry, disappointed, or confused. We understand why some may have lost trust because of the words that were shared. We do not take this matter lightly, and we do not want to dismiss or minimize the pain these statements may have caused.
Our desire is to be a church that reflects the heart of Jesus Christ—one that protects the vulnerable, values every person, speaks truth with grace, and creates an environment where people can seek help, healing, and restoration.
A Season of Healing, Counseling, and Accountability
As part of taking responsibility for what has occurred, after meeting this morning with Shawn Holderfield, it is my decision for Shawn to take a sabbatical from ministry for a season of prayer, healing, reflection, and counseling.
This will be a time for Shawn to step away from ministry responsibilities, seek God, receive wise counsel, and pursue professional counseling to address past hurts and areas in his life that need healing and growth.
We believe that genuine healing and repentance require humility, honesty, and a willingness to receive help. This season is intended to provide space for that process to take place.
We ask our church family and community to pray for Shawn, his family, those who have been hurt by these words, and everyone who may be walking through the pain of sexual abuse or trauma.
Our commitment as The Father's House remains the same: to love people well, to protect the vulnerable, to uphold the dignity of every person, and to represent Jesus Christ with truth, grace, humility, and compassion.
We are grateful for your prayers, your grace, and your willingness to walk with us through this difficult season.
