Norton County Honor Hunt The Norton County Honor Hunt was founded to recognize our veterans and give thanks for their dedication.

The Norton County Honor Hunt will hosts disabled Veterans from across the state of Kansas for a two-day deer hunt the first week of deer season in Kansas. The day prior to hunting, organizers will share some of the community’s attractions by giving a tour of Veterans' Memorial Park as well as shooting at the Norton gun range. Two long days of private, guided hunting will follow and the entire event will end with a community banquet on the last day of hunting. The banquet is open to the community, but limited tickets are available. The banquet will be held at the Norton Eagles and will start with a cocktail hour at 6:30 pm, and the banquet will begin at 7:30 pm. The Norton American Legion will present a formal flag ceremony, and patriotic songs and readings will be included. A live auction will be showcasing numerous donated items and guns with proceeds to benefit the event for years to come. Hosting this event takes nearly 80 volunteers from the Norton County community in order to make it successful and special for our Veteran Hunters each year.

18-year old Texas high school football player Aiden Craig tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during a physical fitness test while training to become a U.S. Marine.

Craig had recently graduated from Wylie High School, where he was a two-year varsity football player. The defensive end recorded 50 tackles, four sacks, six QB pressures and six tackles for loss during his senior season, earning Second Team All-District honors.

Just weeks after graduation, Craig enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was 47 days into recruit training when he suffered the medical emergency on August 1. He was hospitalized and died four days later on August 5. The Marine Corps posthumously awarded him the title of Marine.

His family is now honoring his memory by establishing an educational endowment through the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, hoping Aiden’s name and legacy will continue helping students in his community.
