Please, if using Northwood Lake this weekend, make sure you measure any and all ice before entering. Reports of new large areas of open water. The wind has not been the ice's friend. Since winds have died, the water may freeze tonight and only be an inch or so. With snow tomorrow, it may cover it and blend in. The entire lake is NOT safe. While there may be 8 inches around most of the lake. There may be large pockets of little to no ice. Please use extra caution.

Ice update 1/5/25. Varying 6 to 8 inches on the east side of the lake. Did happen to see some open water over by the cove along route 4 along one of the points. Please use caution and measure the ice yourself to determine if it is okay for your own use.

If you are a parent of a High School Senior, I'm sure you share some of my past experience. Your senior doesn't always share with you what's going on.
We wanted to make sure you knew the Saddleback Mountain Lions Club will award two scholarships to a graduating senior from Northwood, Deerfield or Nottingham. The scholarship information is posted at Coe Brown High School but is open to students from all 3 towns Saddleback Mountain Lions Club serves. We have included the information here as well. We've only had a couple of applicants so far, so encourage your senior to apply.

A $500 scholarship is being offered by the Saddleback Lions Club, servicing the towns of Northwood, Deerfield and Nottingham.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. You must be enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university or trade school.
2. You must be a resident of Northwood, Deerfield or Nottingham.
3. You must complete your first semester of your freshman year and be registered for a second semester.
4. Payment will be made directly to the student prior to the start of the second semester.
5. Send an email to [email protected] to request an application. FB isn't letting me add the application to this post.
6. Application deadline is April 30, 2024.

Ice update for Northwood Lake 2/11/24. 8 inches of ice over by the island. Warm Temps yesterday and today. Please use extra caution and measure the ice yourself and determine if it is save for you.

Ice update 2/4/2024. Reports show 5 to 7 inches in areas. Lake ice is locked in pretty well. Our permits go until March so still holding on to get some help from mother nature. No ice is ever safe, please measure and determine if it is safe for you before venturing out.

Ice update 1/21/24. 4 to 5 inches of ice with snow and water on top. Lake looks pretty well locked in besides the high water near the dam. This is not the best ice. Snow acts as an insulator and is keeping the lake warm even though we've had subzero Temps. As usual, please measure any ice and determine if it is safe for you.

Glad to partner with Friends of Northwood Recreation to help Northwood residents recycle and getting a Trex bench at the same time. Two great groups - people helping people.

Ice update 1/6/24. Appears to be almost a complete ice in with about half an inch of ice. Big snow storm coming in which is not good for the newly formed ice as it will push the ice down. But finally, at least this is a start. As usual. This ice is not safe what so ever, so don't even think about going out.

First ice update of the year! Half of the lake near the island and Boy Scout camp has a very thin layer. The other half of the lake is wide open water. Some warm temperatures incoming but over night lows look pretty decent! Please do not even consider going out on this ice yet. Keep your fingers crossed for more ice!

We have collection bins in multiple locations around Northwood. Including the swap shop at the transfer station, Northwood Northwoods Brewing Co and several other spots. Thank you if you have dropped off old glasses to be recycled to someone in need.
