The Great Sacandaga Lake Fisheries Federation (GSLFF) was formed in February 1984 after several groups noted the need for one group to oversee the promotion and enhancement of the Great Sacandaga Lake. Since this time, the group has collectively worked in many ways to enhance one of the finest fisheries in New York State. In 1996 the GSLFF incorporated as a federally recognized 501(c) not for Profit Corporation and all work is done on a volunteer basis.

Then vs Now: The Great Sacandaga Lake 🌊

The Great Flood of 1913 overwhelmed cities along the Hudson River, including Albany, and exposed how vulnerable the region was to spring runoff flowing down from the Adirondacks. In response, the state built the Conklingville Dam on the Sacandaga River, creating Great Sacandaga Lake as a large flood control reservoir. The lake now holds back excess water up north, helping regulate the Hudson River and protect communities downriver like Albany when snowmelt and heavy rains push water levels higher 🌊
