Many people have asked how we were able to clean the cemetery headstones. We used a product called Wet and Forget. Follow the directions on this product and mother nature does the rest. You can lightly scrub the surface of the stone with a SOFT brush to speed up the process . Another product that works well is D2, this product is harder to find.

The stone in the front has the name Sarah Brownell on it. She passed away at the age of 19. The stone has a beautiful hymn written at the bottom. It is our hope to repair her stone plus others in the future. This stone was buried under 5 inches of earth and found using a probe. The stone directly behind the broken stone was a newer granite stone placed for Sarah. Her name appears at the top of that stone.
Rev. E.W. Brownell and his wife (also named Sarah) came from the Baptist Church in the Town of Knox. Rev. Brownell served as pastor of the Northville Baptist Church from 1862 to 1868.

We spent the morning uncovering and resetting some stones today with a wonderful work crew!! We can't wait to get back at it as there is so much to be done.

We will be meeting at 9 am tomorrow ( Oct.5th) to primarily clean and locate and uncover gravestones that have previously fallen and are now covered with soil. Please dress warm as it is supposed to be chilly and if you have any small shovels or garden tools bring those as well. Hope to see everyone tomorrow!!

Here are some photos from today. We had a great time doing this and we can't wait to get back at it again! Our group of volunteers is growing so if you are interested our next work day is Sat. , Oct. 5th from 9 am to noon in the Northville Main Street Cemetery. Please feel free to join us. We will be focusing on more cleaning of stones, uncovering partially or fully buried stones.

Thank you so much to everyone that came out and helped today! We really achieved so much in just one morning!! We will be meeting again next Saturday ( 10/5) at 9am to continue working. Please join us if you are interested in helping to clean stones, repair stones, and uncover stones.
