We had a great time leading a hike in the woods with the Friends of Maybury State Park to explore the trees big and small on a beautiful day!

This week, the Fifty North Nature Walkers teamed up with the Northville Tree Champions for an informative and enjoyable tree walk through downtown Northville!
Celia Larsen and Jim Porterfield from the Northville Tree Champions shared their knowledge along the way, highlighting some of the unique trees found throughout our community.
Some highlights from our walk included a stop at the History Tree outside the Northville District Library, a visit to Celia’s home to learn about her pawpaw tree, a fruit-bearing tree native to Michigan, and, to top it all off, a chance encounter with the Mayor along the way!
Thank you to the Northville Tree Champions for helping us discover and appreciate the trees that make our community special.

IT'S BUCK RUB SEASON NOW!
Protect your recently planted trees!
Buck rub refers to an activity by male deer that can be highly destructive to young trees. They rub their antlers on young trees, and especially recently planted trees, to remove the velvet from their antlers and to mark territory. They can tear the bark off these trees which can severely damage and kill them. We’ve seen this in downtown Northville. Protect trees by installing some type of guard which can be purchased from local home improvement stores.
Attend to this soon.
Thank you for helping us protect Northville's tree canopy!

One of our supporters brought this to our attention. Hope you find it interesting!

A small town west of Montreal has decided to officially recognize trees as living beings with rights of their own, in what an environmental organization describes as a first in Quebec and Canada.

The passing of a legendary tree....

The Major oak aka Robin Hood oak is dead. I have oak saplings grown from acorns that I collected from this tree.

ICYMI! City of Northville, Michigan - Government has taken extra care to give a mature tree a second chance, by using a specialized preservation process to relocate the tree instead of taking it down during the renovation of Main Street!
