NYN Program Spotlight💡MEADS MILL MIDDLE SCHOOL PEER 2 PEER: The transition from elementary to middle school is a big deal! Many young students can benefit from the guiding force from someone who’s recently “been there done that”. The Meads Mill Middle School Peer-2-Peer program consists of a group of 8th graders, many who were in the program themselves as 6th graders, trained to assist the younger students to acclimate to the middle school experience by showing them the ropes and being a positive role model. Cross-age peer programs like Peer-2Peer provide growth and learning opportunities for both mentors and mentees, resulting in a “double impact”. This experience provides the 6th grade mentees with the opportunity to find support along with friendship development, reinforcing positive behavior, and a constructive example to emulate. The 8th grade mentors cultivate their leadership skills, increase their own self-awareness and personal growth, and improve their communication and interpersonal skills.
Peer-2-Peer is open to all Meads Mill Middle School students in 6th and 8th grades. The program meets weekly after school in the school building during the academic year.
