The Oklahoma branch of the Pidcock Family held a reunion today. I joined virtually long enough to share some stories of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Pidcocks from the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Forced to leave Eastern Pennsylvania by the Iroquois and the sons of William Penn, many Delaware/Lenape Indians moved west to the Susquehanna Valley. They took up residency in the Native American villages of Shamokin (present-day Sunbury and Northumberland), Nescopeck, and the Wyoming Valley. That was in 1742.

It's fitting that we remember this great injustice today, a day devoted to honoring the history of Indigenous Americans. Our ancestor John Pidcock lived in a Lenape village along the Delaware River during the late 1600s. The villagers helped our family establish itself. Three centuries later, the Pidcock Family Association remembers this historical fact.

Molly Bilinski of lehighvalleynews.com has written an accurate and compelling account of the infamous Walking Purchase and its long-term consequences. I was honored to be interviewed as Molly did her reporting.

The Walking Purchase, a 1737 land grab perpetrated by William Penn's sons, shaped the Lehigh Valley as residents know it today. But, the land wasn’t actually purchased, as the name might suggest — it was swindled from the Lenni-Lenape.

The Pidcock Family Association held its 5th virtual reunion today. States represented included California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Alabama, and Pennsylvania.

Pidcock descendants trace their line back to John Pidcock who settled along Pidcock Creek in what is now Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County in Pennsylvania. He lived in a Lenni Lenape village there, and operated a trading post there in the late 1600s.

Many Pidcock descendants still live in Bucks County and in Hunterdon County. New Jersey.
