"Smile on Seniors of Northridge" recruits volunteers to visit seniors. Visiting takes on many aspects of any friendship that one has; the difference is that the person being visited is the main focus. Initially listening and talking is what volunteers do, but sometimes a gentle touch or the warmth of a caring smile is all that occurs. It all depends on what is needed at the time. Volunteers play c
ards, board games and word searches as well as listen to music with the people they visit. Once and a while a volunteer and the resident will share a meal. Just as interests vary with people who are not elderly, the residents that volunteers visit have many different hobbies and interests that volunteers share with them. Some seniors enjoy being read to, others do not. Everything depends on the people themselves.
