LAPD Devonshire PALS builds character and enriches the lives of children and teens by offering year round activities that foster trust and understanding between young people, the LAPD and the community. For more than 30 years, PALS has provided after school and weekend enrichment programs for at-risk children and teens that build strong, positive relationships between youth and the LAPD. PALS prom
otes trust and understanding between young people and police officers by bringing youth under the supervision and constructive influence of dedicated law enforcement professionals. The program is based on the conviction that young people—if they are reached early enough—can develop strong, positive attitudes toward police officers and the law. In 2009, the Greig Smith LAPD Devonshire Youth Center opened in Northridge. The average daily attendance at the Youth Center is 91 children between the ages of 7 to 17. The Youth Center is complete with a library, a computer lab, a great room that is used for Tae Kwon Do, movie nights, ping pong, air hockey, and more as well as outside basketball courts and tether ball.
