🌈 This Pride Month, we celebrate the courage, authenticity, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

At Hope Grows Center for Counseling, we believe everyone deserves a safe space to be seen, heard, and supported exactly as they are. Mental health care should be affirming, compassionate, and accessible to all.

This month—and every month—we stand with those embracing their identities, sharing their stories, and cultivating lives rooted in hope, healing, and self-acceptance.

You belong. You matter. You are worthy of care.
Happy Pride Month! 🌈💙

✨Counseling Intern Spotlight! ✨

Alysia Johnson is a counseling intern at the University of Alabama who is passionate about supporting individuals and couples as they navigate intimacy, relationships, and personal growth.

With a professional goal of becoming a s*x therapist, she is especially interested in helping clients explore s*xual wellness, relational dynamics, and deeper emotional connection. She strives to create a warm, safe, and judgment-free space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences, strengthening communication, and deepening connection within themselves and their relationships. Her clinical interests include relationship, marital, and premarital concerns, s*xual wellness, postpartum challenges, and anxiety or depression related to intimacy and s*xual concerns. Alysia believes therapy is a collaborative and empowering process rooted in self-discovery, mindfulness, and self-care.

Her therapeutic approach is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Adlerian theory. Alysia tailors her approach to meet each client’s unique needs, using these frameworks to help clients explore their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns while building practical tools for growth and healing.
She understands that taking the first step into therapy can feel overwhelming and feels honored to walk alongside clients on their journey toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and connection.

Alysia is currently practicing under the supervision of Andrea Whitten, Ph.D., LPC S. She offers services through our community-based pricing model, allowing clients to choose a rate that best fits their financial situation.

Alysia will start seeing clients the week of May 26th!

Your mind deserves peace, too 🤍✨

Overthinking can leave us feeling stuck, drained, and disconnected from the present moment. The good news? Small, intentional habits can help calm the mental noise and bring clarity back into your day. 🧠🌿

Here are 5 gentle reminders when your thoughts start spiraling:

• Practice mindfulness
• Limit information overload
• Give yourself a time limit to decide
• Talk it out or journal your thoughts
• Challenge fear-based thinking with facts

You do not have to solve everything all at once. One grounded step at a time is enough. 💛
If overthinking has been impacting your relationships, sleep, confidence, or daily life, therapy can help you learn tools to slow the cycle and feel more present again.
