Exciting updates!

We recently had a great meeting with the teacher helping lead the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Pollinator Pathway project, as well as the district sustainability manager, to talk about possible collaboration between our pollinator pathway work, Foster-a-Sprout, Forever Habitat Homes, and the district’s larger native plant and sustainability goals.

One exciting piece of the conversation was Westview Elementary. The district sustainability manager had recently visited Westview and was very impressed with the courtyard work happening there. We are hoping Westview can help serve as an example of how schools across the district could become Forever Habitat Home sites for native plants grown through Foster-a-Sprout.

Speaking of Westview, we also received new photos of the amazing work Buster and company have done this summer, and we can absolutely see why she was so impressed!

What an amazing job. Thank you again for creating such a perfect Forever Habitat Home for some of our fosters. We are so excited to keep seeing this space grow into a beautiful native plant and pollinator habitat.

Had another fun weeding event Tuesday (well as fun as weeding can be!) BP created this if you wish to sign up for it. It’s not necessary but does let us know people might show up!

Join City of Northglenn Park Rangers, Community Scientists, and Butterfly Pavilion for a pollinator walk and bioblitz at Fox Run Nature Area. Explore the incredible diversity of pollinators and other wildlife that call this space home.

Update on the Northglenn Pollinator Pathway / Monarch Flyway proposal:

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved moving the proposal into the city’s 90 day review process.

Northglenn currently has a policy for naming or renaming public places, but not a separate process for adding a habitat designation. Since one of the proposed corridors already has an established name, renaming is not a practical solution. During the review, city staff will look into other options and examine how neighboring communities handle pathway, flyway, and habitat designations.

The designation itself has not been approved yet. After the review, the Board can make a recommendation to City Council.

We also have the first public event planned in support of the pathway and flyway idea, a Community Pollinator Walk and BioBlitz at Fox Run Nature Space. See the flyer for full details.

Northglenn residents who support connected pollinator habitat can help by contacting their Ward City Council representatives and sharing their support for the proposal.

Thank you to everyone who has followed and supported the project. Moving into the formal review process is an important next step.

We’re excited to share a new community habitat idea taking shape in Northglenn.

This Thursday, we will be proposing two Pollinator Pathway / Monarch Flyway designations to the Northglenn Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

The proposal would use existing trails, parks, open spaces, and nearby habitat areas to help connect pollinators, birds, native plants, and people across the city.

The idea is simple: protect and improve the habitat pieces we already have, connect them better, and create more opportunities for residents to learn, observe, plant, restore, and participate.

If you live in Northglenn and support more connected pollinator habitat, native plant restoration, community science, and nature education, one of the most helpful things you can do is email or call your City Council Ward representative and let them know you support the proposed Pollinator Pathway / Monarch Flyway designations.

You can also help by sharing this post with neighbors, friends, and others who care about pollinators, parks, trails, native plants, and wildlife.

Our first public pathway activity will be:

Pollinator Walk / BioBlitz

Fox Run Nature Space
Parking/Meeting at Stonehocker Farmhouse
With a Northglenn Ranger and Butterfly Pavilion staff

This will be a chance to explore the site, look for pollinators and other wildlife, learn more about the proposed pathway idea, and help document what is already living in these spaces.

You’re welcome to use iNaturalist to help with the BioBlitz, or you can simply join the walk, ask questions, and enjoy exploring the site with us.

No experience needed. Just bring curiosity, water, and sun protection.

Fox Run Pocket Prairie volunteer days are continuing for the rest of the season.

Starting Wednesday, July 15, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Fox Run Pocket Prairie to help care for the native habitat garden.

These workdays will include weeding, watering check ins, seed gathering, seed spreading, and later season planting as the site is ready. Fellow Restoration Master Volunteers and Butterfly Pavilion staff will also be helping throughout the season.

Fox Run Pocket Prairie was planted as part of Butterfly Pavilion’s Urban Prairies Project in partnership with Northglenn Parks and Recreation, and it is already supporting monarchs, native bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife.

Come help us keep this little prairie growing.

What to bring: Water, gloves, sun protection, and clothes that can get dirty

This silly bee decided to make the pots drainage hole her front door. So neat to watch her go back and forth to the rose leafs and return riding her little leaf brooms.

Pollinator survey photos from FoxRun Pocket Prairie done on Saturday the 20th. We tired to get the fast bees! It was alive with much activity.
