Geologists are natural collaborators – they often work in cross-disciplinary teams. And, ideally, they build strong personal networks for sharing resources and career opportunities.

But many geologists neglect their personal networks. Personal networking can feel awkward, and at face-to-face science conferences, the time available for networking is often limited. As a result, some geologists fly solo in their careers and don't receive the benefits that personal networks provide.

To support geologists, AIPG is now offering opportunities to network online. These online networking sessions will also provide gentle support for those who find networking to be less than easy.

This webinar is open to members and non-members.

Description
This webinar will Highlight the compilation of 50 years worth of data collected along the Florida Reef tract. Specifically, it will highlight dramatic declines in coral cover associated with outbreaks of coral disease, warm-water induced coral bleaching, and hurricanes. Through temporal analysis and comparison with other locations in the Caribbean, it is clear that these dramatic declines are linked to increasing sea surface temperatures and are regional, not local, in nature. The webinar will discuss the implications of climate change in all of its manifestations on the present and future state of Florida’s reefs.

Cost: Members - $15 | Non-Members - $30 | AIPG Student Members - free
Participants who attend the full webinar will receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU / 1 PDH.

To earn NY State CEUs, you must attend the entire webinar and complete a brief assessment afterward with a score of at least 70%. The assessment link will be shared in the chat box at the end of the webinar. Multiple attempts are allowed.

Once registered, you will receive the Zoom link with your email receipt and a reminder on the day of the webinar.

As demand for AI and cloud computing infrastructure accelerates across the United States, developers, energy providers, and technology companies are seeking reliable energy and water solutions to support large-scale data center deployment while aligning with ESG objectives and operating within increasingly resource-constrained environments.

Modern hyperscale data centers require continuous power at scales ranging from hundreds of megawatts to gigawatts, with many still reliant on fossil fuel-based generation such as natural gas and coal. This dependence creates growing climate and regulatory pressure as companies pursue net-zero targets, positioning CCUS as a viable pathway to reduce emissions while maintaining reliability. Cooling infrastructure is also a major driver of energy and water demand, highlighting the importance of water stewardship. Shallow geothermal cooling offers a promising alternative by reducing reliance on evaporative systems, lowering both energy consumption and water use.

Together, these strategies provide a pathway to support continued data center growth while improving sustainability, resilience, and resource efficiency.

Abstract
Geophysics is a powerful tool in geology, but it can often feel confusing or overly technical if you don’t have a background in it. This presentation breaks down the basics of common geophysical methods, including gravity, magnetic, electrical, and seismic, in a simple, approachable way, focusing on what each method measures and how it connects to real geology.

The goal is to build a natural understanding of how geophysics can help β€œsee” below the surface and ease uncertainty when interpreting subsurface conditions. The talk will also briefly highlight how these methods are used in mining to support ore body interpretation and exploration. This presentation is designed for geologists who are new to geophysics and want a practical, easy-to-understand introduction.

Abstract
This presentation will be an overview of the tectonic setting and structural geology of the Trans-Pecos region, with emphasis on Hudspeth County. The material will be drawn from a guidebook prepared for the 2023 AIPG-Texas field trip (Geology of Hudspeth County), a three-day exploration (led by Bruce Darling, Michael Jacobs, Rich Kyle, and Philip Goodell). In addition to tectonics and structural geology, the presentation will cover important aspects of the economic geology of Hudspeth County. Of special interest will be geological factors that account for emplacement of rhyolite laccoliths northwest of Sierra Blanca and the concentration of rare earth elements, beryllium, and uranium within the Sierra Blanca laccoliths of the Trans-Pecos Magmatic Province. Round Top Mountain has been the focal area of exploration by Texas Mineral Resources Corporation and USA Rare Earth. The presentation will include current information on the status of the Round Top Mountain project, scheduled to begin commercial production in 2028.

Also included in the presentation will be the history and location of fluorspar mining in the Eagle Mountains, along with a discussion of geological factors that account for the formation of fluorspar deposits in the northeastern Eagle Mountains. Talc deposits at Allamoore and the mining of those deposits will be discussed as well as other mineral deposits along the eastern boundary of the extensive Diablo Plateau (aka, the western boundary of the West Texas Salt Basin).
