Donald D "Pete" Miller Center The Children's Dyslexia Centers, Inc. Children are eligible regardless of economic status, race, or religion. Our center does not diagnose dyslexia.

Are in 15 states, providing tutoring at no charge to children from kindergarten through high school who have been diagnosed as dyslexic. Dyslexia is estimated to affect millions of school-age children in the United States. These children typically have average or above average intelligence but experience difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. The children who rec

eive tutoring at our center have already been diagnosed with dyslexia through educational and psychological evaluations. Many have been tested in their schools and
are receiving special education services. Often the diagnosis in public schools is
labeled as a learning or reading disability. When applications are received at our
center, these evaluations are reviewed. When it is determined that our program will benefit the child, the child is accepted into the program and put on the wait list.

Dyslexia is the most common learning disability. Individuals with this medical condition have difficulty in the areas of language processing

1 in 5 people suffer from dyslexia.

About 70 to 85% of children who are placed in special education for learning disabilities are dyslexic.

Dyslexia does not reflect an overall defect in language, but a localized weakness within the phonologic module of the brain (where sounds of language are put together to form words or break words down into sounds).

People with dyslexia are usually more creative and have a higher level of intelligence.

Those with dyslexia use only the right side of the brain to process language, while non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain to process language.

Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it. And a 100% chance if both parents have it.

Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe. Around 40% of people with dyslexia also have ADHD. And those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.

Dyslexia is not a disease so there is no cure. It’s a learning disability that includes difficulty in the use/processing of linguistic and symbolic codes, alphabetic letters representing speech sounds or number and quantities.

Dyslexics do not “see” words backwards. The “b-d” letter reversal for example is mainly caused by deficits in interpreting left and right.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 15% of the population has dyslexia.

The Childrens Dyslexia Centers are meeting the challenge in today's new "Normal" in making sure that no child has been left behind. We adapted our program almost overnight to assure that although these are troubling times no child is suffering because of it.

Thanks to the monumental effort of the entire team we have been able to continue to carry on with our mission to help children learn to read.

This is in no small part due to your support at all of our fundraisers and we know it! Thank you for your support for this very worthy cause in the past and of course, for your continued support in the future.

Are you a teacher or do you know a teacher that may be interested in becoming one of our Orton-Gilliingham tutors? The Childrens Dyslexia Centers of New Jersey are seeking tutors for training in South Jersey.

There is one Center in Northfield and one in Burlington Twp looking for new tutors to join our program. Take a look at the flyer below and see if it interests you.

Children deserve the chance to succeed in life and without the basic ability to read what chance have they got? Wouldn't you want to be able to say that "You Made A Difference!" in a child's life by giving them this amazing gift.

Please share this with anyone you think may be interested.
