Daughters of Toleza Scholarship

Daughters of Toleza Scholarship Our Mission is to empower one Malawian girl at a time with expanded life choices by supporting her secondary education.

Daughters of Toleza Scholarship Fund financially supports the secondary (high school) education of girls from rural southern Malawi. Our U.S.-based team is partnered with a team of Malawian employees from Toleza Farms to provide encouragement and moral support by mentoring the girls.

Did you know that 1 in 29 Malawian women die during pregnancy or childbirth? This is in part because of Malawi's culture of secrecy and the belief that it is taboo for women to discuss sexual matters, including pregnancy and childbirth. However, there are “secret mothers”, or female elders, who are elected by their communities to keep tabs on pregnant women in their villages (pri.org). Malawians are all about community and helping others in need and in this case they take the saying "it takes a village to raise a baby" seriously. What examples can you think of where Malawians came together as a community to address a problem?
