"The American people and our congress overwhelmingly support helping Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian invasion. This war is being fought by a free democracy through brave Ukrainian patriots and volunteers from around the world against a Russian dictatorship that would permanently extinguish freedom in Ukraine. Brave Americans fought their own War of Independence for eight years. We honor those citizen soldiers to this day as we likewise honor the foreign volunteers such as Lafayette and Pulaski who fought and bled alongside them. At any time during our War of Independence our leaders could have said, "We must stop killing" and surrendered consigning Americans to a life of subjugation and exploitation. The Americans, like the Ukrainians, rejected the temporary comfort of surrender. The result was the establishment of the greatest beacon of freedom and hope in the history of the world. Ukraine's fight against Russia is likewise a beacon to free people everywhere. There is another way to stop the killing besides surrender and that is victory. In our War of Independence we chose victory. In World War I we chose victory. In World War II we chose victory. In the face of Russian criminal aggression Ukraine and the free world have chosen victory over the temporary but ultimately bitter relief of surrender." ~ John Zarych, Esq.

For a couple of years now, we have sponsored Seven Field’s School in Sempolky for orphan children. Many of the children lost one or both of their parents. In May, we sent students to a riding stable in Brovary for lessons and riding, including lunch. The trip was arranged by our Ukrainian volunteer, Masha. In addition to organizing humanitarian aid deliveries all over the country, Masha has been volunteering at the school for years.

Let’s celebrate the incredible work of volunteers like Masha!

🌟 Humanitarian Aid in Kharkiv Oblast: A Race Against Time 🌟

In late April, our team embarked on a critical mission to deliver humanitarian aid to the villages of Pylne and Glyboke in Kharkiv Oblast. These villages lie in a “grey zone” along the Russian-Ukrainian border, an area not controlled by either side. Here’s what unfolded:

🤝 Collaboration: We joined forces with the Kharkiv Humanitarian Aid organization, run by dedicated Kharkiv residents. Together, we aimed to bring much-needed relief to these isolated communities.
🏚️ Desperate Conditions: Pylne and Glyboke had been cut off from essential services. These villages have neither operating stores or access to health services.
🕰️ Race Against Time: Within 10 days of our visit, the situation escalated dramatically. The villages were overrun and captured by Russian soldiers. Most of the residents were evacuated by volunteers and the Ukrainian military.
🙏 Hope Amidst Crisis: As the conflict rages on, we remain committed to supporting those caught in the crossfire and will continue to do our part to help the good people of .

We recently received a request from a volunteer teacher to help a school of 20 Ukrainian children who were displaced from their homes in Zaporizhzia by the Russians. They were invited to Lviv for a competition but did not have the resources to get there. UHI responded to the request and paid for their transportation and chaperones. There were three teams in the competition from their school and one of their teams won!

Approx. 40 babies per month are born in a hospital in Sloviansk. We recently delivered these baby boxes for new mothers. They are full of knitted items like clothes and stuffies. A group of English women regularly knit these items to let the mothers know that people outside of Ukraine are thinking of them. We worked closely with Wendy Warrington and Tim Allison from New Forest For Ukraine CIC, an English aid organization, to make this delivery.

We recently said, "good bye" to our late (blue) delivery vehicle. It traveled more than 35,000 miles in one year - from Jan 2023 until Feb 2024 - over the bumpy Ukrainian terrain and helped us deliver to countless villages. It was repaired several times but it met its end. Luckily, (thanks to the generous contribution of John Zarych, Esq.) we were able to quickly purchase this 2011 cargo van, formerly known as a Polish Postal Service vehicle to continue deliveries (look closely for the co-pilot). Next stop "baby box" deliveries for new Ukrainian mothers. Stay tuned...
