Okay friends. Dave taught many many young men and women from Harbor Fields. This project is something that he would have loved. Challenging my Dave’s Day family to make a contribution to The Leadership Studio
Sharing from Allie Nunzi : Collectively, we’ve got to do better by our youth. Will you help?
This morning Kathy and I had the opportunity to visit Harbor Fields Detention Center... a detention/holding center for high school aged children (mostly boys) that are held until their sentencing (think: county jail). Some are there for 30 days, some three years. Every child (yes, child) is in the formative/developing years.
All of these kids have scored an 18 or higher on their ACES exam. These kids don’t need prison, they need yoga. They need connection and belonging. They need a society that wants better for them and gives them opportunities to truly champion their environments.
When we asked what the greatest challenge was for the boys in this detention center, the ED shared that is was the lack of parent engagement. They are in custody with social workers that care and are typically released with no support. - We punish kids for the world that they were born into. Their crimes are an acting out of aggression that they didn’t chose. They don’t have another way.
What if we could provide them with tools? What is we could give them a framework from which to make powerful, healthy, choices for their lives and living?
This state facility (it serves four counties) has no funding for much else than to house and feed these kids. I’m seeking private donors to make a resiliency program happen.
Will you help us achieve a $1,000 goal to create a program for 24 young men?
