The Northfield TimeBank is a community-run time bank in Northfield, MN. In a time bank, members exchange goods and services using Credit Hours in place of dollars. Goods are valued based on the hours that went into creating them. Time banking was first developed by Edgar Cahn in 1980. He wanted to find a way to link untapped social potential with unmet needs. Time banks allow community members to

give value to things that are often ignored in the money economy. Instead of focusing on profit, time banks focus on neighborly connection and community empowerment. There are currently over 300 time banks in the United States, and many more scattered across 34 countries.
