We have some truly exciting news to share with you — and it hits close to home for every single one of us in the Luminaries community.
On May 14, 2026, a landmark piece of bipartisan legislation was introduced in Congress: the Lainie Jones Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Act. This bold and meaningful bill was introduced by Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz (herself a cancer survivor and Co-Chair of the House Cancer Caucus), Brian Fitzpatrick, Mark DeSaulnier, and Joe Wilson — and it was written with people like YOU in mind.
The bill is named in honor of Lainie Jones, an extraordinary woman who faced adrenal carcinoma, sarcoma, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, melanoma, lung cancer, and ultimately glioblastoma — first diagnosed with cancer at just 18 months old. For 13 years, Lainie spent her life as an online advocate, encouraging others to do self-checks and stay connected with their doctors. Her courage and legacy deserve nothing less than this.
Here's what this Act could mean for cancer survivors across the country:
★ Personalized care planning — coverage to help survivors develop individualized survivorship plans
★ Care coordination — support for navigating complex, ongoing cancer care
★ Employment assistance — grants to help survivors, families, and caregivers navigate workforce challenges
★ A new payment model — rewarding quality survivorship care across the entire care journey
★ Enhanced Medicare coverage — so no survivor is left to navigate life after cancer alone
★ Education & awareness — resources for both survivors and healthcare providers
★ Access to fertility preservation services and provisions for childhood and adolescent cancer survivors
The numbers tell a sobering story: only one in three survivors currently receives a survivorship care plan, and half of all survivors face financial hardship tied to their diagnosis. With 18 million Americans living with, through, and beyond cancer, this legislation couldn't come at a more important time.
At Luminaries, we have always believed that surviving cancer is only the beginning — and that every survivor deserves the tools, support, and community to truly thrive. This bill reflects that belief at the highest level of our government, and we are deeply encouraged by its introduction.

We also encourage you to share this news with fellow survivors, family members, caregivers, and friends. Every voice matters, and the more support this bill receives, the greater the chance it becomes law.
Thank you for being part of the Luminaries family. Together, we are making sure that no survivor walks this journey alone.
