Rice County Habitat For Humanity Rice County Habitat is a Christian nonprofit organization that partners with local families to help them achieve the dream of homeownership.

Rice County Habitat was chartered in 1991 and built our first house in 1993 in Northfield. A couple of things merged together to create our affiliate. First, a group of people from some local churches went on a Habitat trip to Michigan. They came back inspired and energized to do the same work locally. Secondly, there was a city program in Faribault that helped to remodel homes with and for people who were low-income. People from both of those groups came together to form a Rice County Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Since that time, we have continued to build houses with people in need. Habitat brings together volunteers and Partner Families to build not only homes, but communities. Rice County Habitat is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Today Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.

EXCITING NEWS for supporters of Habitat for Humanity in Rice and Goodhue counties. We are planning a Global Village/Thrivent Build to Chiquimula, southeastern Guatemala, March 14 – 20, 2027. Construction projects vary but can include pouring concrete floors, building cookstoves and new home construction. Costs are being determined at this time, but likely $2K + airfare per person with Thrivent members receiving a subsidy.

Join us for an informational meeting on Monday, October 19 at 6:30 PM at the Habitat office in Northfield (Cornerstone Community Church, 1313 S. Division Street, Northfield) to learn more. RSVP's requested.

Traveling to another country allows us to experience firsthand how global housing challenges intersect with local realities, deeply enriching our understanding of the universal need for safe, affordable shelter. By stepping outside our borders, you will not only contribute your hands and heart directly to building decent homes alongside local families, but you will also return with a renewed, global perspective on what it means to build community. Come discover how you can make a tangible difference abroad and bring that inspiration back home.

Thank you for everyone that continues this advocacy work at our state's and nation's capital.

The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is expanding pathways to homeownership — and Habitat helped make it happen.

A BIG THANK YOU to our Catholic Daughters volunteers!

We are so grateful to the Catholic Daughters and one of our wonderful neighbors who joined us on the build site. They had a great time getting their hands dirty and hanging sheetrock to help move our Habitat home closer to completion.

And, of course, they left with one of our new Rice County Habitat T-shirts!

You can get your very own Habitat T-shirt, too! Simply sign up to volunteer on the build site or bring lunch for our volunteers, and you’ll receive one of these new shirts as our way of saying THANK YOU for being part of the Habitat mission.

Want to get involved? There’s a job for everyone!
