📚🌎 Making a Difference, One Student at a Time!

We enjoyed welcoming Kristen Heinrich to this morning’s Rotary Club of Westminster meeting! Kristen shared the inspiring work of the Literary Project (GLP) and how Rotarians are helping change lives through education.

With support from more than 800 Rotary clubs, GLP has helped nearly 330,000 students gain access to textbooks, technology, and educational opportunities that help break the cycle of poverty.

Thank you, Kristen, for reminding us of the incredible impact Rotarians can make when we work together!

💙 This Week at the Rotary Club of Westminster: Mental Health First Aid

Mental health matters, and recognizing when someone is struggling can make a meaningful difference!

This week, we welcome Dr. Melisa Sandoval from Westminster Public Schools (WPS) for an important presentation on Mental Health First Aid.

Just as traditional first aid helps us respond to physical emergencies, Mental Health First Aid teaches us to recognize warning signs, offer support, and connect individuals with appropriate resources.

At Westminster Public Schools, five staff members are trained in Mental Health First Aid and have trained 405 staff members, strengthening the district’s ability to support students and staff.

We’re looking forward to learning how awareness, compassion, and early intervention can make a difference in our schools and throughout our community.

Thank you, Dr. Sandoval, for sharing your expertise and helping us put Service Above Self into action!

Thank you to Sue Counterman from Seeds of South Sudan for an inspiring presentation to our Rotary Club! Sue shared the remarkable story of founder and former Lost Boy Arok Garang and the organization’s mission to educate refugee children so they can become “seeds of change” for South Sudan.

Since 2009, Seeds of South Sudan has educated 236 students, including 91 high school graduates, 41 college students, and 14 college graduates—with students going on to become physicians and earn advanced degrees. The program provides students with a safe home base in Nakuru, Kenya, and access to quality education.

We were inspired to learn how education is transforming individual lives while helping build a stronger, more peaceful future for South Sudan. Thank you, Sue, for sharing this important work with us! 💙🌍
