This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re spotlighting the groundbreaking work taking place at Hadassah hospitals to advance breast cancer detection, treatment and survivorship.

Under the leadership of Dr. Tanir Allweis, head of Hadassah’s Breast Health Center for Excellence at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, Hadassah is preparing to implement Mirai, an AI-powered tool that analyzes mammograms to help predict breast cancer risk up to five years in advance. Initially being introduced for research, Mirai could help pave the way toward more personalized, risk-based screening.

And innovation doesn’t stop at detection. From multidisciplinary breast care and treatment support to survivorship programs, Hadassah is committed to caring for the whole person at every stage of the journey.

GLP-1 medications have transformed the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Now, researchers at the Hadassah Medical Organization are investigating a potential side effect that may surprise you.

Brothers Jonathan and Nir Zontag analyzed health records from hundreds of thousands of adults with type 2 diabetes and found that GLP-1 medication users were more likely to develop new smell and taste disturbances than patients taking other diabetes medications. The overall occurrence remained low, and further research is needed to confirm the findings.

Debbie Derby’s son survived the October 7 attacks in southern Israel. Two months later, her 20-year-old daughter, Ashira, died after attending a music festival in Miami.

🎗️ Visiting the Nova memorial site with her husband, Derby recognized her daughter’s joyful spirit in the tributes to those murdered. “Any of them could have been our child,” she writes.

On the third anniversary of October 7, she reflects on grief, the bonds among bereaved Jewish parents and Nashira Atl , the nonprofit she founded to carry on Ashira’s legacy by helping girls build friendships rooted in kindness and mutual support.

In the wake of unimaginable grief, Debbie Derby created Nashira to honor her daughter and strengthen connections among the next generation of Jewish girls.
