Last Friday, Cove was honored with the Excellence in Narrative Education Award at Advocate Children’s Hospital’s 12th Annual Narrative Medicine Conference, “Rehumanizing the Clinical Encounter Through the Narrative Practice: Where Story Meets Care.”

The award celebrates our work with a Cove student, family, school district and the full team supporting him, as well as our shared commitment to listening to students and families and using their stories to guide how we support and advocate for them.

Dr. Sally Sover accepted the award on behalf of the Cove team. We are grateful for this meaningful honor and for the opportunity to ensure every student’s story is heard, understood and valued.

Last week, Cove kicked off the new school year with our annual Meet & Greet, bringing together new and returning students, families, and Cove staff for a fun and welcoming afternoon! 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. A special shoutout to Jarabe-Taqueria for serving up delicious tacos, Kona Ice of Arlington Heights for keeping everyone cool in the heat, and humanKIND • custom shirts for creating custom apparel that had everyone leaving with a smile! 🌮🍧✨

The 2026–2027 school year is officially underway at Cove! 💙🌟 Our halls were full of excitement as students reconnected with friends, met new classmates, and settled into their classrooms. We’re especially excited to welcome more than 25 new students to the Cove community this year!

After kicking off the morning with an all-school assembly, students spent time getting to know one another and jumping into fun activities with their classmates. We can’t wait to see what this school year has in store! ✨

The Cove community joins the many families, educators, and professionals whose lives were transformed by Pearl Rieger in honoring her remarkable legacy.

A nationally respected educational diagnostician, mentor, and advocate, Pearl dedicated her life to helping children with learning disabilities understand their strengths and reach their full potential. As a longtime member of Cove's Academic Advisory Board and a trusted mentor to Executive Director Dr. Sally L. Sover, her wisdom and compassion strengthened our community in immeasurable ways.

Pearl's influence lives on through the countless students, families, educators, and clinicians she inspired. Her legacy will continue to guide and shape the future of learning disabilities education for generations to come.

As our Extended School Year Program wrapped up, students took center stage at the Museum of ESY, proudly sharing the projects, discoveries, and skills they explored throughout the summer. It was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, creativity, and learning! 💛💙
