ICYMI: We're proud to share that Rise Above will receive an earmark as part of the 2027 Massachusetts state budget! This funding will enable us to meet increasing demand for our support, giving more kids in foster care in our state access to sports, music, summer camp and a lot more.

Thank you to all our legislators for their support. We are especially grateful to State Rep. James O'Day for his advocacy and unwavering commitment to kids in foster care and the professionals who serve them.

Tomorrow is the last day to help!

This summer, a young adult who grew up in foster care is settling into her very first apartment. She just moved there from a shelter with her toddler, and she is studying psychology and criminal justice at Bridgewater State University while building a home for her son.

Rise Above's Start Above project helps young adults aging out of foster care turn an empty apartment into a home, in a single day. Pots and pans. Towels and sheets. A couch to relax on. And since her son loves the ocean, his room is getting a shark theme, from bedding to wall art.

From musical theater camp to overnight camp, and from gymnastics camp to horseback riding camp: with your help, Rise Above sent more than 137 youth in foster care to camp this summer!

A huge shoutout to our longtime Preferred Business Partner The Little Gym of Medway!

Not only have they provided discounted classes and birthday parties for kids in foster care, but have supported our Care Packages with drives and card making, hosted events for foster families, and their owners serve on our Advisory Council!

Last month we had the opportunity to support a young adult who had just moved into his first place. He works full-time and will be attending Worcester State University this fall. Before Rise Above's help, was making do with an air mattress on the floor. Not only were we able to get him a bed and bedding, we furnished his place with a couch, tables and décor to make the space his own.

When the young adult stepped back into his apartment, he was astonished by his new space and that we did way more than he expected. He told us "you made a home my home."

For many young people leaving foster care, starting fresh means starting with nothing. We're so honored to have the chance to change that through Start Above. Learn more at weriseabove.org/startabove

Thank you to the volunteers who helped us build furniture, carry boxes, clean, and hang pictures and curtains, and we could not have done it without them. We're starting to prepare for our fall Care Packages and are in need of supplies. We anticipate sending out nearly 400 packages to youth in foster care who are defying the odds by continuing their education beyond high school. We hope to fill each box to the top with study snacks, hygiene and school supplies, and gift cards.

Now through the 10/31, we’re accepting donations of snacks, gift cards and other dorm goodies to add to our care packages.

We're especially in need of volunteers to host drives with friends, faith communities, workplaces and other community groups. Email us to arrange a drop-off or pick-up.

We were honored to be the recipient of the Eagle Scout Project of Ella Schofield of Troop 163 Sturbridge MA.

Ella collected donations and assembled 11 terrific Launch Boxes, each with a cleaning kit. She stopped by the Rise Above earlier this week to deliver the boxes and kits. We can't wait to pass them to young adults transitioning to their first place.

Happy 1st birthday, Leominster playground! 🎈

Since then, this little space has been a place for giggles, swinging, sidewalk chalk, and quiet moments between parents and kids who needed exactly that. For children in foster care and their families, this playground means time together that matters.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special project possible and who believed kids deserve a place to just be kids.
