"Rise Above gave my foster son a special scooter. He is young for his age both physically and emotionally. But he is trying to keep up with kids his age. The kids often bike and scooter and my foster son has never learned either skill. He’s struggling with them a lot and it’s affecting his self esteem a lot. This scooter is easier to ride and control but still has enough speed to keep up with his peers."

Happy Pride Month from Rise Above! 🏳️‍🌈

We especially want to celebrate youth experiencing foster care who identify as LGBTQ. The overrepresentation of LGBTQ youth among those who have entered foster care persists and an estimated 30% of youth experiencing foster care identify as LGBTQ. LGBTQ youth are significantly more likely to be in a group home rather than with a family and are more likely to face maltreatment.

Rise Above is proud to support LGBTQ youth in foster care and provide them with access to extracurricular activities and opportunities to support their journeys and help them feel safe enough to blossom into whoever they are meant to be.

When Mason joined a local hockey team with support from Rise Above, he found more than a sport. He found consistency, friendship, and a place to belong. Around the same time, he was welcomed into a permanent, loving family. His adoptive mom shared that being part of the team helped him feel connected and grounded as their family grew together. The right support at the right moment changes everything. 🏒❤️

May is National Foster Care Month, and we're down to the final days.

There are nearly 8,000 youth in foster care in Massachusetts, and the people showing up for them every day are foster parents. They do it quietly, consistently, and without nearly enough recognition.
So this one's for them.

Nominate a foster parent for Project Joy and we'll handle the rest: Red Sox game, concert tickets, dinner and a show, a house cleaner. One perfect day, all theirs.
