We are all aging. When we hold ageist views or allow ageism to go unchallenged, we are not only affecting older adults today—we are shaping the world our future selves and the people we love will grow older in.

Ageism remains one of the “isms” we still need to actively recognize and tackle. Awareness is a good place to start.

You can find toolkits and resources to help individuals and organizations participate in this day of advocacy through the American Society on Aging:

Optimism doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay all the time. Healthy optimism makes room for difficult emotions while still believing things can improve. Small actions, like those in the calendar - - noticing what’s going well, connecting with someone, enjoying something or simply resting, help replenish us. Optimism is about finding moments of good alongside the difficult. This skill, along with others I mention in my feed, helps build emotional capacity, expand our , strengthen resilience, and create a greater sense of balance in life.

Trauma bonds aren’t limited to romantic relationships. They can develop between parents and children, siblings, friends, caregivers, colleagues, etc. How to tell the difference?

Love says: I can be connected to you and still be me.

A bond says: I need this connection-even when it repeatedly costs me pieces of myself.

Love leaves room for boundaries, disagreement, independence, repair, and growth. You don’t have to abandon yourself to maintain the connection.

A trauma bond is reinforced through cycles of hurt and relief…rejection, withdrawal, fear, or instability followed by affection, attention, reconciliation, or calm. This can create a powerful : the relief renews hope and keeps drawing you back.

Over time, the cycle of distress → hope → relief → longing can begin to feel compulsive & normal.

So sometimes the question isn’t only, “Do I love this person?”

It’s also: “What is keeping me attached?”

rarely happens when life is comfortable…it often comes through . Our brains are wired to learn more from , mistakes, and because they prioritize what feels threatening or needs to change. Be patient and compassionate with yourself; you’re not behind or broken, you’re learning lessons that only time, exposure, and experience can teach.

Social Prescribing Day highlights the importance of connecting people to non-medical supports like community groups, movement, nature, and creative activities. These connections address the root causes of stress and loneliness, improving both mental and physical health. It reminds us that well-being isn’t just clinical - it’s social, emotional, and deeply human 🫶

simplified. . .is simply the practice of paying attention to the present moment, your breath, your body, your thoughts, and what’s happening around you. The calendar shows many easy ways to do this: slowing down, noticing nature, listening deeply, breathing, and appreciating small moments. Like going to the gym strengthens your muscles, practicing mindfulness regularly strengthens your attention and emotional balance. Without practice, those “mind muscles” don’t grow; but with small daily actions, calm and clarity gradually become easier. Learn to !

One simple but powerful friendship practice is to really listen without judging. When we give someone our full attention, without interrupting, fixing, or mentally preparing our reply - we communicate safety and respect. This kind of listening strengthens trust, deepens connection, and regulates both nervous systems, reducing stress and increasing feelings of belonging. Being truly heard is one of the greatest gifts in friendship, and offering it builds stronger, more resilient relationships. Strengthen your skills .
