Alexander's Little Run That Could - 5K Awareness 5K for Neuroblastoma a rare childhood cancer. Funds benefit Nemours Center for Cancer and The approach taken by the staff at Nemours A.I.

We became familiar with this rare childhood cancer, called Neuroblastoma. In 2010, at age 2, our son, Alexander was diagnosed with stage 1 Neuroblastoma. duPont Hospital for Children was truly amazing. The following three weeks after a mass on Alexander's spine was discovered (between T6 & T10), our son was aggressively attended to with tests. The surgery to remove the mass was three weeks followi

ng the discovery. For surgery Alexander spent three days at Nemours. With all the medication, chest tubes, IVs it began to take some of his energy and strength. At times, Alexander was too tired to talk, so we started to give each other the 'thumbs up'. With each visit to Nemours, the staff has become familiar faces and kept up the high level of care. Post operation included monthly, quarterly, bi-annually imaging and testing. Alexander continues to remain cancer-free. Today, our son is a Neuroblastoma survivor. Alexander's a smart, active 1st grader, soon to be 7 years old. Every night before Alexander and his brother, Regan (4) go to sleep we press our 'thumbs up' together to keep the positive energy flowing... that the new day ahead of us will stay on a good path. Nemours is one of the nation’s leading pediatric health systems, dedicated to advancing higher standards in children’s health.
