What a day in Potterville! We were blessed with beautiful weather, nearly 500 enthusiastic visitors, and an incredible team of dedicated volunteers and exhibitors who all came together to make the Colonial Open House at the Potter Homestead in Scituate a truly memorable day.

The Scituate 250th Commission and the Scituate Preservation Society are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us. Your support helped us shine a light on our colonial heritage and commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves!

Go NAVY! We truly appreciate Professor Dave Kohnen’s thought‑provoking program on Saturday! His presentation on the maritime aspects of the Revolutionary War—skillfully detailing the importance and challenges of developing and operating a brand-new navy against the preeminent Royal Navy—was brilliant and genuinely captivating. Thankfully, the historic Grange's new A/C system kept the heat and humidity at bay, allowing the sizeable audience in attendance to fully appreciate this inspiring 250th program. Thank you, Dave, Go NAVY!

“It follows then as certain as that night succeeds the day, that without a decisive naval force we can do nothing definitive, and with it, everything honorable and glorious.”
— President George Washington, 15 November 1781, to Marquis de Lafayette in recognition of the Continental Navy’s strategic importance in securing American independence.
