The weather was ideal for today's cemetery cleanup. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers who devoted their morning to clearing debris and meticulously restoring the gravestones of the Knight family, including searching for, resetting, repairing, and cleaning the stones. The before and after photos document the careful efforts made to honor one of Scituate's Revolutionary War veterans, COL Joesph Knight, and his extended family, who are laid to rest in the watershed.

The Scituate Preservation Society will present its educational outreach program, George E Matteson; The Man and his Maps, on April 7, at 274 Victory Highway in West Greenwich. This popular program was created by SPS to celebrate Scituate born mapmaker and Forest Ranger, George Matteson, who preserved Rhode Island's history through his detailed and whimsical hand-drawn maps of towns throughout Rhode Island . Recently, he was inducted into the RI Heritage Hall of Fame for his incredible body of work.

A significant gathering of citizens from Scituate, nearby towns, and adjacent states expressed their gratitude for an excellent presentation delivered by Robert Grandchamp, who eloquently shared his passion for the history of Scituate. The beautiful and historic Old Congregational Church, with its windows providing a view of the Revolutionary War memorial that pays tribute to our Scituate patriots, served as the ideal location for this 250th event. Thank you to Robert, and all who attended. Happy Spring!

Scituate's 250th Commission is working to present a variety of exciting activities throughout 2026 to commemorate our Nation's semiquincentennial and will partner with the Scituate Preservation Society for its March offering. The state of Rhode Island's 250th commission (RI250) encourages all Rhode Islanders to "become engaged and invested in this important milestone." Come together in the Old Congregational Church to honor our Scituate Patriots and enjoy this informative program!
