🎶 Good Morning, Ponaganset Music Community!

On this day in 1950, Charles Schulz’s beloved comic strip Peanuts debuted in newspapers, introducing the world to Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and friends. What many don’t realize is that the animated specials featured the iconic jazz piano music of Vince Guaraldi, whose Linus and Lucy became instantly recognizable around the world. 🎹🐾

Question of the Day: If PMPA students could perform music from Peanuts, would you prefer to hear the jazzy, upbeat Linus and Lucy or the warm and nostalgic Christmas Time Is Here?

🎶 Good Morning, Ponaganset Music Community!

On this day in 1960, The Flintstones premiered on television — the first animated series to air during prime time. Fun fact: its catchy theme song became so popular that it was later released as a single! This was one of the first times TV music crossed over into mainstream pop culture. 📺🎵

Question of the Day: If PMPA students could bring a cartoon theme song to life, would you want to hear the classic, nostalgic themes like The Flintstones or a modern favorite like The Simpsons or Phineas and Ferb?

🎶 Good Morning, Ponaganset Music Community! 🌞

Did you know that in 1501 Venetian printer Ottaviano Petrucci published the Harmonice Musices Odhecaton A — the first major book of polyphonic music printed with movable type? Petrucci’s elegant three-step type method (staves, text, then notes) made music easier to copy and share, launching the era of widely available printed music and helping composers like Josquin des Prez reach audiences across Europe.

🎼 Question of the Day: Would you rather see PMPA present a historically informed program using original-style printed music (replicas) — or a modern concert that highlights how printed music changed the way composers wrote for ensembles? Tell us which and why!

🎶 Good Morning, Ponaganset Music Community! 🌞

Did you know Adolphe Sax patented the saxophone in Paris in 1846, creating a whole family of instruments that combined the projection of brass with the agility of woodwinds? Early examples were even made of wood and the saxophone was quickly adopted by military bands — later becoming a defining voice in jazz and popular music.

🎼 Question of the Day: For a future PMPA feature, which sax would you most like to hear — soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone — and why?

🎶 Good Evening, Ponaganset Music Community! 🌞

Did you know that the modern concert pitch A = 440 Hz — commonly called A440 — was internationally formalized as the standard tuning frequency (ISO 16) in the 1970s, after years of national and industry agreements in the early 20th century? Today A440 is the usual reference, though many orchestras tune slightly higher (A442–A444) or lower for historical performances.

🎼 Question of the Day: If PMPA programmed a historically informed concert, which tuning would you prefer we try:
• A = 415 Hz (baroque/early music feel),
• A = 440 Hz (modern standard), or
• A = 442+ Hz (brighter, often used by modern orchestras)? Tell us which one and why — we might try a special concert tuned to your choice! 🎻🎺🎹

🎶 Good Morning, Ponaganset Music Community! 🌞

Today we remember. On September 11 we honor the lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the resilience of our communities. Music played a powerful role in the days and years after 9/11—uniting people, raising funds, and helping many find comfort and a way to grieve together. Two widely seen examples were the televised benefit “America: A Tribute to Heroes” (Sept 21, 2001) and the star-studded “Concert for New York City” (Oct 20, 2001), both created to raise money and pay tribute to victims and rescuers. 🎵🕯️

🎼 Question of the Day: On a day of remembrance, what song or piece of music brings you comfort or helps you reflect? Share a title or a short memory — your replies help keep community connection alive.
