Unifining all youth athletic programs in the Town of North Salem since 2015 incouraging more participation for longer periods of time within the North Salem athletic community though collective collaboration. North Salem Athletic Club Pilot is hoped to be a collaborative project between our community sport organizations and Town Recreation Department, with the support of North Salem HS Athletics.
Our vision is to grow children through sport by providing opportunities to develop the skills and confidence to enjoy the positive benefits of a quality, first experience. We are using the pilot as a means to assess the interest of the community as well as the logistics and coordination of having community sport stakeholders working together to provide a truly unique multisport experience. The success of the pilot, feedback from the participants, parents and community sport organizations will help determine the direction of multisport delivery in the future. All sessions will be facilitated by recreation program coordinators and delivered by community sport organizations. Each lesson focuses on skill development through physical literacy and fun, setting the ground work for a love of sport and an ‘I can play anything!’ attitude. Physical literacy comes from developing a wide variety of fundamental movement skills such as running, throwing, catching and jumping. To develop these skills, our kids need to play different sport and activities from an early age – it’s a win-win!
