It has been a week since Carol Goldberg passed, and it is still hard to imagine North Salem without her.
There is so much that can be said about her kindness, her energy, and the profound impact she had on our town. But to us, she was something more—she was a steadfast protector of open space and a champion of the North Salem Bridle Trails Association.
Carol was there at the very beginning of the North Salem Open Land Foundation (NSOLF) in the early 1970s, and she remained deeply involved throughout her life. Her commitment never wavered. As an equestrian professional and later as a real estate agent, she helped shape the future of our community in a meaningful way—ensuring that new property owners understood not just what they were buying, but what they were becoming part of. She encouraged them to embrace North Salem’s equestrian heritage and to keep bridle trails open on their land.
Because of Carol, so much of what we love about this town remains intact. So many of you have been lucky enough to spend time in Carol’s gardens when she hosted the NSBTA Annual Meeting countless times.
Her legacy lives on every time we ride a horse, walk on NSOLF properties, or simply take in the beauty of the land she worked so hard to preserve. We will miss her friendship, her smile, her wonderful sense of humor, her steadiness, and her deep, abiding love for North Salem.
