Snow days aren’t just a break from school ❄️. They’re a boost for mental health. Extra rest, unstructured play, family time, and the simple joy of slowing down help kids reset, reduce stress, and return more focused and resilient. Sometimes, the best lesson is a day to breathe. ☃️

As the Veteran’s Day celebrations and ceremonies end, it is imperative that we remember that behind every mission stands a silent force — the families who serve without recognition, applause, or uniform. Every. Single. Day. 24/7:365
Supporting them isn’t optional; it’s essential. Their resilience strengthens our warfighters, our readiness, and our nation. Honor the ones who hold it all together when no one is watching.

& :: PSA-
The challenges families experience in life can be a source of psychological stress, especially for children. It is often overlooked how children in military families experience high rates of mental health issues, trauma and other related problems.
Take these challenges into consideration as you are meeting with your leadership teams to plan for the coming school year.

“Military children’s futures are bright” argues Jessica Saum. In her essay, Saum asserts the issues military children and families face are ...

Employment is an ongoing challenge for many military spouses, who face differing license or exam requirements between states for the same jobs; employers reluctant to hire military spouses; and lack of affordable child care at many bases.

Record rates of Active-duty military spouses want to leave the military, with a large number of them frustrated by the PCS process.

With a new school year beginning, this is a good time to remember that military children must overcome unique and significant challenges. These include enduring family separation while a parent is deployed for long periods of time and navigating new schools and trying to make new friends every few years.

This following letter from a 10-year-old makes clear how challenging life is for a military child.

The military lifestyle is nomadic by nature. Military families move on average once every two-to-three years. And, while we readily thank active military personnel for the many sacrifices they make, and we frequently remember to thank their spouses, too, we too often forget the children. With a new....

For years, the ID/A community has demanded real help. Governor Josh Shapiro heard them loud and clear – and this budget finally stands up for Pennsylvanians with intellectual disabilities and the direct support professionals who care for them with major investments:
$354.8 million in federal
 and state funding to provide more resources for home and community-based service providers, a 7 percent rate increase.
This includes $280 million to help raise wages for the direct support professionals who care for Pennsylvanians and $74.8 million to begin the process of clearing the emergency wait list entirely – ensuring more Pennsylvanians receive the care they need and deserve.

Thank you Governor Shapiro for funding these traditionally sorely under-funded supports & services!!

When service members move from base to base, they sometimes find it takes too long for their child's new school to begin providing special education services.
