In Loving Memory
Richard "Ric" Aaron Staley
April 8, 1980 - April10, 2004
Richard Aaron Staley, aka "Ricky" or "Ric", beloved son of Rich and Cathi Staley, beloved brother to Veronnica Smith and Stephanie Schumacher, passed away April 10, 2004 at Summit due to an avalanche accident. He was 24. Ric was born on April 8, 1980, in Reno, Nevada. He was currently attending UAF in the Engineering Program and was Co-Owner of North Pole Quality Construction with his father. Ric was preceeded in death by his Sister Angela Staley and grandfather Fred Fitzgerald. He is survived by his parents Rich & Cathi Staley, sisters Veronnica Smith and Stephanie Schumacher, brothers-in-law Jeremy Smith and Daniel Schumacher, and his financee Amy Cooper all of North Pole; grandparents Mack and Maxine Staley and Mary Fitzgerald; Aunts and Uncles Sharon McCallum, Freddie Fitzgerald, Tom & Margy Staley; cousins Sue Staley & family, Abe & Siohhan McCallum, Katherine Jones & family, Steve Busby & family, Clifford Venable & family. Ric lived his short life with all he had. He loved ice hockey, skiing, building, drawing house plans, camping, snow machining and for a year he helped coach a Sq**rt team. He started playing hockey when he was 5 and ended his career as Captain of the Ice Dogs for two years and played all three years with all the excitement and energy he had. He put off his academic scholarship to the University of Denver to play for the Ice Dogs; then when DU didn't offer his Major, Ric returned to UAF. Ric had the biggest heart in the world and would do anything for anyone; he never made fun of people and was sincere and sensitive man. He will be sorely missed and was so loved by so many people - especially his family. "If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again."
