DEGA Mobile Veterinary Care We see cats, dogs, and pigs. DEGA stands for Determined for Everyone to Gain Access (to Veterinary Care).

DEGA Mobile Veterinary Care is a 501c3 nonprofit providing free basic veterinary care to low/no income owners & individuals experiencing homelessness across the state of NC By working with other local charitable organizations, DEGA Mobile Veterinary Care is able to identify those most in need who can then take part in clinics where their pets will receive free wellness examinations, vaccines, heartworm testing, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, and treatment of minor medical issues.

Some of the appointments at our new building this week! Still pinching ourselves that we have our very own clinic space.

To answer some questions, our hours are by appointment only & we will accept those who apply and then qualify for either free services or low cost. Those approved will either be given an appointment at one of our mobile clinics or at our building.

We're on a slight break now, but those in need can apply for assistance here: degamobilevetcare.org/application & we will be processing more applications soon. Happy we can keep helping more pets!

Years ago we met sweet Sofee & her person, a trans individual experiencing homelessness. We've been happy to continue helping them over time & yesterday provided a free dental along with pre-anesthetic labwork since Sofee is an older gal.

Although we do not have dental xrays or equipment for extractions, we are happy to be able to start providing bare bones dental prophylaxis on a case by case basis for those in dire need. These will mostly be offered at low cost, but as always for those who qualify they will be free. Love being able to help this cutie pie live a more comfortable, healthy life! 💕

What a great clinic at Meet Us at The Square yesterday, a community resource event for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Thank you to the City of Raleigh for organizing such needed services & for not only providing lunch for those in need, but also for volunteers (w a vegan option taboot!🙌🏾). We ended the day with a quick impromptu cat neuter for a kitten we met at the clinic so we could help prevent an accidental litter! Never a dull moment. 😜

Instead of napping yesterday, we did our first free dog neuter in the building as soon as our vet board inspection was complete! This cutie is one of the dogs belonging to the unsheltered individual we helped a few days ago. While he was recovering, we clipped their other dog's nails in our exam room. So fun finally using all the space we've worked so hard to create! And we love that this sweet boy was our first official patient in the building so that we could help the owner even more.

To answer a few questions about the new building:

🐾 We will still do free mobile services
🐾 We will start to add on low cost services
🐾 Hours will be by appointment only
🐾 Most surgeries will be done in the building (the GHON surgery trailer will still be used to do surgery days in low income areas)

Today we met an individual experiencing homelessness who lives in their vehicle & tent with their two dogs. They have a storage unit for belongings & are able to shower at a friend's as needed. This person has been unsheltered for almost a year now & receives a small amount of money per month that is spent quickly on food for the three. That's when they start sitting at the same corner (that they've gotten a permit for!), waving their sign to get donations from passersby.

We hung out with the three of them & updated both doggies on vaccines plus contributed funds for the owner to help with basic needs. The ACORNS unit of the Raleigh PD referred them to us & has been helping the owner as best they can in hopes of getting them a housing voucher eventually. So glad we could help in some small way, just always wish there was more we could do.
