Trap Neuter Return - TNR - North Platte, Nebraska We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, focused on caring for feral/community cats in Nebraska ❤️
(5)

**We are a tiny group of people, working to trap feral felines in the North Platte community and then have them spayed, neutered, vaccinated, treated with parasite prevenative, then returning them back to their original colony home. When doing TNR… Our goal is also not to return any kittens or friendly cats we encounter and we try our best to get them all rehomed. We also care for about 75 cats a

day… In 14 locations around our town. We provide them with food, water, shelter and continued medical care as needed. We do our best to fundraise through out the year and raise money for the cats. All the money we raise goes 100% back to our veterinarian bill! Amazon Wishlist:

Just when I think I might be able to get ahead with my Foster bunch and thin out the herd… This happens. 😭🫣😪🥺

This is a cat that has become a part of one of our colonies. I won’t go into details about his story, but i’m done dealing with doing the right thing and leaving him there. We’ve taken him to the vet twice for meds for his nose, chronic rhinitis. I knew when I pulled up on Thursday that something was absolutely wrong with him. I snatched him up and he’s never going back.

He has a lot going on and as you can tell, he does not look good. He has lost 2 pounds since we took him into the vet in February.

Here is a brief synopsis of what the Vet observed:

Mowgli - a couple of things noted on his exam today. He does have a pretty significant upper respiratory infection and is dehydrated. The bottom front part of his lower jaw (front of the chin area) is swollen but is firm and painful when touching that area. Also noted changes to his teeth in that area (loose and gum changes). There are a couple of different possibilities that could play a role including a mass (noncancerous vs cancerous) or infection as well. At this time, it is more suspicious for a mass.

He is only about four years old, maybe five at the most. So he is young. We are trying steroids for the next 10 days or so to see if it helps. And we are treated his upper respiratory with antibiotics.

So we will see how it goes!!!!!!

I have a feeling once he starts to feeling better. He’s going to eat me out out of house and home, but that’s good. I can’t wait for him to put weight back on.

Trap. Neuter. Return.

The “return” can sometimes be the hardest part.

After spending time caring for a mama cat that’s feral, getting them healthy, and making sure they’re ready, taking them back to the place they call home can be bittersweet. We wish every cat could experience a warm couch, a sunny window, and a family of their own.

But not every community cat wants that life.

Many of these cats were born outdoors and are truly happiest in the environment they know. Returning them isn’t giving up on them—it’s giving them the chance to live healthier, safer lives without adding more kittens to the cycle of homelessness.

Before they’re returned, they’re spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. If they have a dedicated caretaker, they’ll continue receiving food, fresh water, and someone looking out for them every day.

So yes, sometimes our hearts ache when it’s time to say goodbye. But we remind ourselves that TNR isn’t about changing who these cats are—it’s about giving them the best life possible, on their own terms.

Sometimes love means letting them go back home.
