Yesterday, members dropped off lunch and dinner for the Somerset County Dispatch Center as part of our appreciation for National Public Safety Telecommunications Week! The unseen heroes of the emergency services, these men and women are on the front lines taking the calls, dispatching the appropriate resource, and keeping it calm and cool when everyone else is screaming. We appreciate your dedication and hard work!

We would like to thank everyone who came out and participated in our 23rd annual St Baldrick’s event this past Saturday! Special thanks to Deputy Chief Beattie, who recently retired from the department, for all his hard work building up this event since North Plainfield started hosting!

Shoutout to Monroe Firefighters Local 3170 for winning this year’s Battle of the Badges with $4,526.35. The Blue Meanies won top team raising $3,840.16. Nathan Rudy raised $3,315.16 for top individual!

As always, this event would not be possible without mentioning some of our great supporters. Special thanks to IHOP of North Plainfield for donating breakfast for the set-up crew, Lyons Fire for grilling hotdogs and burgers for everyone in attendance, Texas Roadhouse of North Plainfield for supplying pulled pork sliders, and for Lazy Boy of North Plainfield for donating a reclining chair for our Tricky Tray Auction! We are so grateful for all of this support in helping our event go smoothly and making it another successful year.

We look forward to seeing everyone for year 24!

We would like to congratulate Deputy Chief Beattie on his retirement from the North Plainfield Fire Department, after nearly 35 years of service. Deputy Chief Beattie joined the department in June of 1991 as a callforce member and began his career as a Firefighter/EMT on March 15, 1999. He was then promoted to Captain in April of 2012, and Deputy Chief in November of 2021, where he also served as the Fire Official.

Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Beattie played a vital role in our union. He fought for a health and wellness program, switching our schedule to a 24/72 shift, and countless other benefits for our union and the community in which he served. One of his major contributions was helping to build up our St Baldrick’s Event that we host each year. It has become a huge success to help conquer childhood cancer. Throughout his entire life, he gave his heart and soul to the town of North Plainfield, the community and the fire department.

Thank you for everything you have contributed and making our lives, careers and town a better place! We wish you good luck with all your future endeavors and have a happy and healthy retirement!

This year your Somerset County Dispatchers will be participating in the St. Baldrick’s event at North Plainfield Professional Firefighters, Local 2958.

St. Baldrick’s is an organization that allows everyone to pledge a donation on behalf of our participants to benefit childhood cancer research. “Shavees” will be shaving their heads at the Event on March 21st, and “Fundraising participants” will be choosing another activity like athletic events, sales, or celebrations.

Cancer, unfortunately, is a disease that has touched most, if not all of us. Please take a moment to consider helping us reach our goal and do our part to help these warrior children realize miracles!
