North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad Providing 100% free 911 Response, CPR/Safety Education, and Water Rescue to NMB and beyond since 1958 The squad was started in May 1958.

North Myrtle Beach Rescue is one of the oldest rescue squads in South Carolina. Three local businessmen donated $200.00 and bought a used 1950 Packard hearse from a local funeral home. We were incorporated as Crescent Beach Rescue Squad. This was before there was a city of North Myrtle Beach. They equipped the hearse with an oxygen bottle and made padded splints. The local pharmacist gave them lessons in first aid. This was the extent of our equipment and medical knowledge. In the 43 years, we have always been there for our community. When the merging of Crescent Beach, Windy Hill, Cherry Grove and the Ocean Drive sections into one city created the City of North Myrtle Beach, the name was changed to North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad. And what a difference 63 years can make. We now cover an area that extends form the North Carolina state line south to the Northern borders of Myrtle Beach. The Shore Drive area is in our coverage area. From the Atlantic Ocean on the east, we cross the Intercoastal Waterway to Hwy 905. Our coverage areas include North Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, Cherry Grove Beach, Little River, Longs, Wampee, Brooksville and the Poplar communities.

Warning: King Tides are expected in our area today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday). The Nor'easter currently affecting the northeastern US may make this King Tide slightly more king-y than usual. This phenomenon occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are all in a straight line and, although you can't feel it, you can definitely experience the Moon's direct gravity along our coast.

Widespread flooding is not expected, but the usual suspects (think low-lying areas and streets) may be inundated during this time.

If you live in, or are visiting) one of these areas, consider securing outdoor furniture, garbage cans, and other loose items. Avoid driving on streets with water, especially where you do not know the depth or speed of the water. Never drive around cones or barricades. They are there for a reason and, please trust us, your vehicle will not appreciate the salt water.

Busy weekend for your North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad! On Friday we gathered, as we always do, with other first responders at Mission BBQ for their 9/11 Remembrance. Saturday found us at the Little River Patriots Day Festival. On Sunday, we actually took a few hours away from answering 911 calls to hang out together for our Squad Picnic. 9/11 PC: HCFR. As of yesterday, only 24 of the 239 EMS agencies in South Carolina are "PEDS READY". This morning, your North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad was awarded the PEDS READY certification, which recognizes agencies who go above and beyond by providing the best care for their pediatric patients. We were also singled out as the very first volunteer agency in South Carolina to achieve this distinction. Kudos to Chief Gary Clark, NREMT-P and Captain Richard Sander, NREMT-B for spearheading this achievement, and to all of our Paramedics and EMTs for your dedication to excellence!

Water rescue call after midnight? Your North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad's Water Rescue team is on it!

A call came in for a flashing light out in the ocean and we were dispatched to investigate. As you can see from the picture, we rescued the flashing light, although it was not attached to anything at the time. We think it may have fallen off a barge.

This is how it goes. We respond sometimes not knowing what to expect, but every call gets the same professional response from our volunteers. Sometimes we rescue boaters in distress, sometimes we rescue.... other things.

One of our members got a great video of the team in action last night if you're interested in The Merlin Bellamy, our amphibious rescue boat. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BnFbWapms/

Your North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad helped the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club set up 250 American Flags on Friday afternoon and then brought both ambulances and Merlin to the opening celebration of this year's Park of Honor at McLean Park on Saturday morning. Our very own Diane Woods spoke eloquently on behalf of all First Responders in general and our Squad in particular. Special shout-out to Rotary and Rescue Squad member Clark Kersey who got us involved in the first place. If you have an opportunity to visit McLean Park through the month of July, it is a moving testament to our heroes.
