Why Chris Nance is the Right Choice for North Muskegon

I’m writing to enthusiastically endorse Chris Nance for Mayor of North Muskegon. As the current treasurer of the North Muskegon Public School board, I've had the unique opportunity to see firsthand the kind of leader our community needs, and I'm confident that Chris is that person.

North Muskegon is a special place, and its future depends on a leader who is not only experienced and results-driven but also deeply passionate about our city. Chris embodies these qualities.

I've known Chris personally for years and can attest to his strong character and unwavering dedication to our community. He has a proven track record of getting things done, and I know he will bring that same drive and commitment to the mayor's office.

One of the most crucial aspects of our city's success is the relationship between the city and our school system. Chris understands this. He is committed to fostering a strong, collaborative partnership between the city and North Muskegon Public Schools. This partnership is vital for ensuring our children have the best possible opportunities to succeed, and it’s a partnership that will benefit our entire community. A mayor who champions education and sees the school system as a key partner in civic life is exactly what we need.

Chris is also a man of integrity. He listens to people, values different perspectives, and is dedicated to serving the community with transparency and accountability. His leadership style is one of collaboration, not division. He's not afraid to roll up his sleeves and do the hard work necessary to address the challenges facing our city, whether it’s maintaining our beautiful parks, improving our infrastructure, or supporting local businesses.

North Muskegon has a bright future ahead, and I believe Chris Nance is the leader who can help us realize it. His experience, his passion, and his commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant community are exactly what we need in a mayor. I have the utmost confidence that he will do good things for North Muskegon—for our city, our schools, and for all of us who call this place home. Please join me in voting for Chris Nance for Mayor.

The State government's inability to reach a budget has real implications. Here is my letter to Rep. Will Snyder (who's staff did respond) and Sen. Jon Bumstead.

I am writing to you today not only as a resident of your district, but also as the elected School Board Treasurer for North Muskegon Public Schools. I am reaching out to express my deep frustration and serious concern regarding the state's ongoing inability to pass a complete and timely budget. This lack of action has very real and damaging consequences for our schools, our staff, and, most importantly, our students.

As you know, our district's ability to plan for the future, allocate resources effectively, and ensure our kids have the best possible learning environment is directly tied to a stable funding stream from the state. The current impasse creates significant uncertainty, making it nearly impossible to confidently make critical decisions about staffing, curriculum, and facility needs. This isn't just a political talking point; it's a tangible issue that affects our ability to provide the quality education our community expects and our children deserve.

The delays and potential cuts force us to operate in a state of fiscal limbo, putting immense strain on our local administrators and staff. We are all trying to do the best for our kids, but a lack of clarity from the state level makes our job infinitely more difficult.

I urge you to do everything in your power to work with your colleagues and pass a responsible state budget. Our students cannot wait. They deserve a stable and predictable educational environment, and their futures depend on the legislative body you are a part of. Please act with a sense of urgency and collaboration to resolve this situation for the benefit of our schools.

Thank you for your time and for your service to our community. I look forward to hearing about a positive resolution soon.

Sincerely,

Ben Scheerer
