Why we served! We all have our reasons. But for the foreigner who signed up in the US military, it is something special. And it leads to a list of, at times, unconfortable questions. Why the US Military? Does your country not have a Military of their own? Why didn't you join theirs? Is it so you can have a green card? Or to become a US citizen quicker? and the inquisition continues.

We all have a story of why, and each one of them will differ and yet find a common ground. For me, it wasn't about a green card, I had that. It wasn't because my country didn't have a military of their own. And it wasn't because I was young with no purpose. Were the opportunities offered by the US Military enticing? Yes! And this definitely made me want to join quicker. Nevertheless, I wanted to give back to this great nation. 911 has just happened and I was as stunned as the rest of the world. I wanted to do something, offer something, a way to say thanks for the opportunities that I can have in the United States; and yet could never dream to obtain from my mother land. So, I served.

I'd like to hear from each one of you. Share your reasons with us.

Our Story

Human Community Services, Inc. (HCS) was first conceived out of an expression of love for humanity born by its founder, Mr. Stanley Hugo Damas. From the time of its creation as a non-profit organization in 2002 until now, the vision and mission of the company have not changed. From the heart of its founder whose sensibilities have been exposed and touched either physically in the far remote corners of Haiti or through the ravages of poverty and advances of pandemics in Africa, the objective of HCS has been to contribute, in any positive manner possible, in order to ease the plight of the needy, even in the most minor of contributions. That is why over the years, HCS’ presence has been noticed in a myriad of activities including, but not limited to
