Ten Years Ago, I Shaved My Head for My Granddaughter. Now I Need Her Strength for My Own Fight.
A decade ago, our family faced a heart-wrenching challenge when my granddaughter Leah Still was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. In solidarity with her, I shaved my head so that we would look alike, standing together in that fight. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I, too, would be battling cancer one day.
That brave little girl, who faced cancer with unimaginable strength, was my inspiration then, and now, I find myself needing that same inspiration for my journey ahead.
Today marks a new chapter in my fight. I’m starting treatment with Lupron and Enzalutamide, and though chemotherapy and radiation are not options for me right now, I’m hopeful that these treatments will bring the results I need. I’m ready to face this challenge head-on, but I can’t do it alone.
I’m reaching out to ask for your support—whether it’s by sharing this message, offering encouragement, or contributing in any way you can. This is going to be a long journey, but I know that with the love and strength of those around me, I’ll have what it takes to see it through.
Thank you for walking this path with me.
