The gardens are lush with growth with the bountiful rains we have been having this season. Unlike the last 2 summers of drought, we can leave the watering cans in the shed!😀

Zucchini and summer squash are plentiful along with green beans. The first tomatoes are starting to ripen and the cherry tomatoes are quickly coming to ripen. I popped out the garlic today and was a bit disappointed on size. Prior years the bulbs were larger… oh well!

We love to plant flowers in hope for pollinators and butterflies to visit. 🌺. I did spot a Yellow swallowtail floating along the flowers, Joy!

You know it’s HOT when you can see the plants grow each day! This is corn growing weather and the gardens love it as well😎. It was a bit warm this AM but I needed to pull the last Kohlrabi and take the spinach out to throw in some cantaloupe. Pulled out a few shallots which is a first planting for me. I took a walk around and checked out the Tree Swallow house and was pleasantly surprised to see a couple wee ones in the house…. It needs to cool off for them!

The gardens have taken off ! 😎 Despite the cooler weather for June, we have been blessed with a couple nice soaking rains. The cold crops are ready to harvest - Kohlrabi, lettuce, radishes, and a 2nd cut of Spinach. Everything is growing well and the potatoes have started to blossom along with the sugar peas. Cross fingers the potato bugs stay away as they were horrible last year!

BLIGHT! After 4 pickings of cukies my cucumber plant has now become a victim. Lots of flowers and still putting on fruit so we will see how long the plant will produce. These are English cucumbers mainly for snacking and on yummy salads, not for pickling. 😀.

Dug up a few carrots today and spotted a ground squirrel hole. He’s been running thru the gardens and snacking on tomatoes.
There have been other holes so I am sure he has a great tunnel system going 🤨.

Tomato time is here, YAY! There is nothing better than a fresh, vine ripen tomato ❤️. The string beans are doing a 2nd blossoming from the recent rains and if you planted your cukes later, they are thriving with this weather and rain. Lots of pretty flowers in bloom but a rare butterfly is seen. I have not found any Monarch caterpillars on the abundant Milkweed 😔

Where did July go.. it’s almost done with and the gardens are finally seeing some hot humid weather after our cool and wet June. The faucet pretty much shut off and now we are needing a good rain😎

The garlic, beets, sugar snap peas, string beans have all been harvested along with a couple cabbage. Slow to come are the cherry tomatoes and yes, the zucchini are coming in like crazy!

The gardens are popping with growth with all this rain we have had… and so are the weeds! It’s pretty soggy after 3 inches of rain in the last couple days. Pulled out a couple kohlrabi which were planted early but had a couple issues due to a snacking rabbit and snacking bugs🤨
2nd picking of snow peas, such a great snack just by themselves. 😀
The garlic is sending out their scapes - seed pod. Removing these will put more energy into making the bulb larger. Don’t throw them away, chop them up and throw into your dishes or a sauté of veggies. You can even grind up and make a pesto with them, YUM!

It’s Tomato time! Mothers’s Day weekend is the planting date for putting your tomatoes in. Generally we are frost free by that date..no worries this year. It has been a pretty normal Spring with good rains but we could do without the crazy winds!
